Laconia Refrigeration & New England Mechanical HVAC/Refrigeration Service Manager Location: Laconia, NH -- leadership and field-based position requiring travel throughout New England, including occasional overnight travel

Laconia Refrigeration and New England Mechanical are family-owned commercial HVAC and refrigeration companies serving customers throughout New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, and Massachusetts. For more than 45 years, the company has built its reputation on knowledgeable technicians, quality workmanship, and dependable customer service. We are looking for an experienced HVAC/R professional who can develop technicians, strengthen service operations, and help the company continue growing.

We are seeking an experienced HVAC/Refrigeration Service Manager to lead, train, and support the company's service and preventive-maintenance technicians. Reporting to the Operations Manager, this position is responsible for technician performance, training, field support, customer satisfaction, job planning, and safe, efficient service delivery. The ideal candidate combines strong commercial refrigeration expertise with proven leadership, organization, and customer-service abilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage, develop, train, and lead HVAC/R service and preventive-maintenance technicians.
  • Review employee performance and help technicians work safely, independently, and efficiently.
  • Assist leadership with recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and employee-separation decisions.
  • Train new employees on company processes, procedures, expectations, and culture.
  • Keep technicians informed about new equipment, technology, tools, materials, and service practices.
  • Ensure customers receive professional service and quality workmanship from the beginning through completion of each job.
  • Prepare customer estimates for parts and labor and accurately project required service hours.
  • Coordinate technician schedules and job requirements to reduce customer downtime.
  • Order parts and materials, arrange deliveries, and obtain required permits for quoted work.
  • Manage projects through digital communication and in-person jobsite visits.
  • Provide technical assistance to technicians and help resolve challenging service issues.
  • Communicate with customers, address concerns, and manage difficult situations professionally.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by establishing and enforcing company procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain professional communication with employees, customers, vendors, and other trades.
  • Respond to service calls when operational needs require additional field support.
  • Oversee the rotating on-call schedule.
  • Maintain the department's vacation schedule and ensure adequate service coverage.
  • Ensure technicians meet uniform, appearance, licensing, certification, and regulatory requirements.
  • Travel throughout New England, including occasional overnight stays at company expense.
  • Enforce company safety policies, including PPE and fall-protection requirements.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of five years of commercial refrigeration experience.
  • Prior experience leading, supervising, training, or mentoring HVAC/R technicians strongly preferred.
  • Degree or certificate from a community college or technical school related to HVAC or refrigeration.
  • Strong working knowledge of commercial HVAC/R diagnostics, repair, maintenance, and service operations.
  • Ability to provide field-based technical guidance and respond to service calls when necessary.
  • Excellent customer service, telephone, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership, multitasking, organizational, and detail-management abilities.
  • Self-motivated and able to perform effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with technicians, office personnel, vendors, and other trades.
  • Ability to professionally manage customer complaints and difficult situations.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout New England.
  • Ability to maintain all licenses, certifications, and regulatory qualifications required for the position.
  • Ability to work on ladders, lifts, roofs, basements, attics, crawl spaces, coolers, freezers, and other confined or outdoor environments.
  • Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift tools, equipment, or components weighing up to 75-100 pounds.
