Job description

About Redwood Materials
Redwood is localizing a global battery supply chain that seamlessly integrates recovery, reuse, and recycling - keeping critical minerals in circulation and driving the energy transition. Founded in 2017, we're delivering low-cost and large-scale energy storage and producing battery materials in the U.S. for the first time, all from batteries we already have.
Senior Technical Program Manager, Chemical Engineering

We're looking for a Senior Technical Program Manager, Chemical Engineering to lead strategically critical programs focused on the development, scale-up, and deployment of next-generation chemical processes. This role bridges scientific innovation and operational execution, ensuring groundbreaking chemical technologies move efficiently from concept to commercialization. Beyond managing day-to-day execution of chemical R&D and scale-up programs, you'll help shape Redwood's strategic technology planning - prioritizing investments, identifying risks, and aligning cross-functional resources to accelerate time to market.
Responsibilities will include:
• Lead technical programs spanning chemical process development, validation, and commercialization
• Partner with R&D, process engineering, and manufacturing teams to define program strategy, scope, and success metrics
• Provide strategic input into technology development plans, pilot plant investments, and capital budgeting decisions, partnering with senior technical and business leadership to evaluate feasibility and impact
• Translate complex chemical and materials science concepts into actionable engineering and program deliverables
• Build and maintain integrated program schedules, risk assessments, and resource forecasts
• Define scale-up strategy, including equipment selection, facility needs, and production readiness plans
• Ensure compliance with chemical safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements throughout process deployment
Desired Qualifications:
• BS, MS, or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline
• 4+ years of program or project management experience in a chemical or advanced materials environment
• Experience with strategic technology planning and early-stage process development
• Strong understanding of process design, scale-up, and the technical-commercial interface
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent programs with cross-functional stakeholders
• Excellent communication, decision-making, and leadership skills
• Proficiency with tools like Jira, MS Project, and cloud-based collaboration platforms
• A Passion for sustainability and making the world a better place!
