Job description

Job Summary
We are seeking a Greenhouse Technician for a contract opportunity in Memphis, TN supporting plant research and trait development within a biotechnology and life sciences environment. This is a hands-on role for candidates who enjoy working with plants, biological samples, and greenhouse operations in a collaborative research setting.
The Greenhouse Technician will support plant sampling, planting, maintenance, and general greenhouse care for engineered cotton plants. This opportunity is well suited for entry-level candidates with greenhouse, horticulture, gardening, landscaping, botany, biology, or related life sciences experience who want to build practical research and plant science skills.
This role offers a team-oriented environment where attention to detail, reliability, and consistent quality are valued. You will work both independently and with a supportive team while contributing to important research and development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect genetically engineered plant tissue samples for DNA and protein testing to help identify desired plant traits.
- Plant engineered cotton seeds and maintain proper greenhouse conditions to support healthy growth.
- Prepare buffer solutions used to extract protein from cotton leaves.
- Assist with plant selection, transplanting, plant placement, and daily plant care activities.
- Perform greenhouse maintenance tasks including water monitoring, cleaning, fertilizing, pruning, crossing, re-clipping, stringing plants, hanging harvest bags, harvesting, and trash removal.
- Work safely and efficiently in greenhouse and headhouse environments that may be hot and require standing for long periods.
Compensation and Benefits
- Pay Rate: $20.00 per hour.
- Job Type: Contract/Temporary.
- Assignment Length: 12-month assignment to start, with potential to extend up to 24 months.
- Work Arrangement: 100% onsite in Memphis, TN.
- Screening Requirement: Drug screening required. No additional medical exams are required.

Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or bachelor's degree in Botany, Biology, Horticulture, Plant Science, or a related life sciences field.
- Prior experience with plant sampling, greenhouse maintenance, horticulture operations, or agricultural research support.
- Familiarity with cotton plants, plant propagation, transplanting, pruning, harvesting, or controlled-environment growing conditions.
