The Small Animal Surgery Service within the Department of Clinical Sciences supports the clinical, research, and educational missions of the College of Veterinary Medicine. Research activities include surgical oncology, orthopedic surgery, minimally invasive surgery, interventional procedures, and other areas of small animal clinical and translational research.

Essential Job Duties
Join a collaborative clinical and surgical research team dedicated to advancing veterinary medicine through high-quality research. Working with Dr. Bae and Dr. McPhetridge, the Research Technician provides critical technical, administrative, and operational support that helps ensure the successful execution of multiple active research studies. This position plays an integral role in coordinating research activities, maintaining accurate data and regulatory records, and supporting studies from planning through completion while contributing to the overall success of the research program.
Key Responsibilities

Research Coordination & Study Management
  • Coordinate prospective and retrospective clinical research studies, ensuring research activities are organized, completed on schedule, and conducted in accordance with study protocols.
  • Perform medical record reviews, collect research data, maintain study databases, and coordinate owner questionnaires and follow-up communications to support accurate and complete data collection.
Research Operations & Regulatory Support
  • Coordinate and support cadaveric research activities while assisting with regulatory documentation and study compliance requirements.
  • Manage research purchasing, inventory, and supply coordination to support the day-to-day operational needs of multiple active research projects.
Collaboration & Administrative Support
  • Partner with clinicians, residents, students, staff, and pet owners to facilitate research activities and ensure effective communication throughout the research process.
  • Maintain organized research records, support confidential data management, and provide administrative and operational assistance that contributes to the overall efficiency of the research program.

  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent professional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clinicians, residents, students, staff, and pet owners.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, REDCap, or similar database management tools, with the ability to maintain accurate and confidential clinical research records.
  • Experience in veterinary clinical research, veterinary hospital operations, retrospective medical record review, owner/client communication, research purchasing and inventory management, and coordination of cadaveric or laboratory-based research projects.
