Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE

Amsted Automotive Group, Transform Products, Shelby Township, is looking for a Gage Technician for our 3rd shift (11 pm – 7 am) +15% shift premium who will be responsible for all phases of programming and calibration of inspection equipment. The Gage Technician will ensure proper metrology is used to monitor conformance to blueprint and, as appropriate, customer-specific and internal procedure requirements for all products and processes.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Primary Function Summary

  • Adapt and promote lean manufacturing principals
  • Active participant in the Elimination of Waste Team meetings
  • Support the Company’s Goals and Objectives
  • Manage, conduct and record gage calibrations, for all measuring equipment in the plant
  • Maintain the Laboratory Scope
  • Maintain (through the calibration process) “red rabbit challenge parts”, master parts and other visual aids
  • Maintain in-line gaging masters and challenge parts
  • Work with production to schedule downtime for gage repairs and staging gages as part of the job set up
  • Coordinate Measurement Machine, fixturing and programming
  • Contracer fixturing and programming
  • ASI/DataMyte gage software programming and trouble-shooting
  • Responsible for repair and maintenance of all fixtures, redesign and troubleshooting
  • Proficiency use of measuring equipment (scales, micrometers, calipers) and checking fixtures, and metrology tools (surface testers, CMM’s)
  • May assist in the collection and analysis of attribute and variable data on in process inspection record according to part-specific dynamic control plans
  • Communicate findings, regarding trends or nonconforming parts or processes to appropriate personnel and participate in corrective actions
  • Identify nonconforming material and quarantine
  • Complete appropriate documentation and reports
  • Assist in problem solving tasks as assigned
  • Conduct Gage R&R’s as assigned
  • Assist in Part Capability Studies as assigned
  • Identify trends using basic statistical process control techniques
  • PPAP documentation, preparation, package assembly
  • Other duties as assigned by the Quality Manager, or Quality Engineer

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Must be able to read blueprints as appropriate
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to use designated tools and equipment
  • Possess working knowledge of IATF16949, ISO 14001 and Q1 compliance criteria
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Some college or manufacturing technical trade-school course work
  • Two years of experience in an Automotive Manufacturing environment is preferred
