Job description

We are seeking a seasoned and visionary Lead Red Hat Linux Architect to lead the modernization of our enterprise infrastructure into a scalable, secure, and cloud-native platform. This hands-on role requires deep expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Red Hat OpenStack Platform 17.1 (RHOSP 17.1), and Service Telemetry Framework (STF) for advanced observability, automation, and lifecycle operations across hybrid environments.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design, Architecture & Deployment
  • Lead the design, deployment, and configuration of RHOSP 17.1-based cloud environments, including compute, storage, and networking.
  • Deliver fully configured and validated OpenStack environments aligned with organizational and client objectives.
  • Define and enforce Linux and OpenStack architectural standards, ensuring scalability, automation, and security.
  • Collaborate with Cloud, DevOps, and Application teams to integrate workloads across private and hybrid cloud infrastructures.

2. Cloud Operations Management
  • Manage day-to-day OpenStack operations to ensure system uptime, stability, and performance.
  • Oversee monitoring integration, patch management, node scaling, and performance tuning.
  • Implement automation for backups, configuration management, and disaster recovery.

3. Documentation & Knowledge Transfer
  • Create detailed technical documentation for architecture, deployment, and configuration processes.
  • Conduct knowledge transfer sessions to strengthen operational readiness and standardization.

Technical Focus Areas
Monitoring & Observability
  • Review Ceilometer and STF configurations to verify metric collection accuracy.
  • Integrate RHOSP telemetry (Ceilometer/Prometheus) and alert pipelines.
  • Perform log reviews across OpenStack services and identify recurring fault patterns.

Lifecycle Management
  • Plan and test RHOSP upgrades in lab/staging environments before production rollout.
  • Automate backup and recovery processes for OpenStack databases, configurations, and metadata.
  • Validate restore procedures and document disaster recovery verification steps.

Security & Compliance
  • Review STIG compliance guidance and validate current configurations against RHOSP 17.x standards.
  • Verify firewall, SELinux, and authentication policies on controller and compute nodes.
  • Conduct vulnerability scans using Red Hat Insights or OpenSCAP, tracking remediation and compliance.

Capacity & Performance
  • Add and validate compute nodes using Director (TripleO).
  • Support GPU node onboarding and verify Nova GPU scheduling.
  • Perform performance tuning for Nova, Neutron, and Cinder services.

Automation & Efficiency
  • Develop Ansible playbooks for provisioning, patching, and backups.
  • Maintain Git-based automation repositories for version control and change management.

Continuous Improvement
  • Identify knowledge or tooling gaps across RHOSP environments.
  • Propose and lead training or shadowing sessions for OpenStack and Ansible operations.
  • Provide monthly improvement reports on performance, automation, and reliability metrics.

Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of Linux system architecture and administration experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and RHOSP (preferably 17.1).
  • Proven experience architecting and operating private or hybrid OpenStack clouds.
  • Strong expertise in Ansible, Terraform, Git, and automation workflows.
  • Solid knowledge of Prometheus, Alert manager, Grafana, and STF.
  • Proficiency in Python and Bash scripting.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with cross-functional collaboration.
  • Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA) or equivalent certification preferred.

Preferred Experience
  • Experience with iSCSI/NFS storage, and GPU integration within OpenStack.
  • Familiarity with multi-cloud operations (AWS, Azure).
  • Knowledge of Red Hat security frameworks.

The annual salary range for California is $136,500 to $253,500. You may also be eligible to receive incentive compensation: bonus, equity, and benefits. Sales positions generally offer a competitive On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive compensation structure.
