Rate of pay: $16 - $18. Final compensation is based on factors such as skills, qualifications, and experience.
Essential Functions:
  • Serve as role model to members and Y staff, and actively promotes the mission and core values of the YMCA movement.
  • Ensure safety of class participants by following group fitness best practices and report any accidents, concerns, equipment troubles to supervisor immediately
  • Ensure that all equipment and supplies needed for class are available prior to the start of class as well as return all equipment and supplies used to proper location after each class while making sure all participants are treating equipment properly to prevent damage, accidents spread of disease.
  • Attend all required trainings and meetings.
  • Interact with class participants before and after class to foster relationships with and between participants.
  • Assist with program development, program design, class session management, and data collection of program participants while following Livestrong at the YMCA program guidelines. Complete all necessary forms and paperwork associated with Livestrong class.
  • Help promote, market, and fund raise Livestrong program.
  • Participate in and solicit others to participate in necessary YMCA financial development efforts, specifically the Annual Campaign.
  • Maintain certifications listed under Certificates and Other Requirements.

Minimum Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent; Bachelor of Science degree in a health and well-being field preferred.
  • Working with people in an exercise setting.
  • Knowledge of exercise physiology, body mechanics and special population training.
  • Knowledge of form and technique of strength training exercises and function of cardio equipment
  • Ability to work with participants to address the whole person, including spirit, mind and body
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills

Certifications & Other Qualifications:
  • Must be able to pass background check
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification
  • CPR/AED/First Aid Certification
  • Y USA Engaging with Cancer Survivors
  • Y USA Orientation to Healthy Living at the Y
  • Y USA Foundations of Group Exercise or Foundations of Strength & Conditioning or a Y USA equivalency
  • Y USA LIVESTRONG at the YMCA Instructor Certification
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills
