About URI: The University of Rhode Island enrolls approximately 17,000 students across its graduate and undergraduate programs and is the State's flagship public research university, as well as the land grant and sea grant university, for the state of Rhode Island. The main campus is located in the historic village of Kingston, and the Bay Campus is located in Narragansett. Both campuses are near major beaches in a beautiful coastal community. THE POSITION WORK SCHEDULE IS IN-PERSON
POSTING SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Honors Director, the Program Coordinator manages the day-to-day operations, programming, and budget administration of the Honors Program and the Office of National Fellowships & Academic Opportunities. The Coordinator plays a central role in supporting a dynamic, student-centered environment while helping to implement new initiatives, streamline operations, coordinate complex programming, and foster collaboration across university units.
Duties and Responsibilities
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Program Operations and Budget Administration
  • Manage the day-to-day administrative operations of the Honors Program and the Office of National Fellowships & Academic Opportunities.
  • Oversee and manage Honors Program and National Fellowships budgets, including purchasing, financial transactions, hiring processes, contracts, summer recontracting, account reconciliation, and related financial processes.
  • Manage URI Foundation accounts and awards.
  • Coordinate office systems, workflows, and operational processes to support efficient and effective program administration.
  • Supervise student employees and support staff operations.

2. Curriculum and Academic Program Coordination
  • Under the direction of the Honors Director, coordinate administrative and logistical support for the University Honors curriculum.
  • Support implementation and ongoing coordination of the evolving interdisciplinary Honors curriculum.
  • Coordinate course scheduling, curriculum processes, and part-time faculty contracts.
  • Collaborate with academic colleges, departments, faculty, and the Faculty Senate Office to support curriculum implementation and academic programming.
  • Provide administrative, operational, and basic technological support to faculty teaching within the Honors Program.
  • Coordinate student advising support related to the interdisciplinary undergraduate Honors curriculum.

3. Honors Colloquium and Public Programming
  • Coordinate and manage logistics for the Honors Colloquium lecture series, including communications, scheduling, speaker contracts, travel and lodging arrangements, budgeting, and event operations.
  • Collaborate with university offices, including Legal Counsel, Publications and Creative Services, Marketing and Communications, Dining Services, Information Technology Services, Campus Police, Facilities, and the Fire Marshal, to support both in-person and virtual events.
  • Support the planning and execution of academically oriented public programming that enhances the visibility and reputation of the Honors Program and the University.
  • Coordinate major Honors events, including seminars, workshops, lectures, expositions, award ceremonies, panel discussions, poster sessions, and the annual undergraduate research conference.
  • Assist in the continued development and execution of new university-wide Honors initiatives and student engagement opportunities.

4. Communications, Outreach, and Engagement
  • Communicate the mission, opportunities, and impact of the Honors Program to prospective students, families, alumni, faculty, donors, and the broader community.
  • Represent the Honors Program at university outreach and recruitment events, including Open House, Welcome Days, Orientation, and related programs.
  • Develop, edit, and manage communications materials in print and digital formats for diverse audiences.
  • Assist in managing Honors Program publications, annual reports, newsletters, website content, and social media platforms.
  • Coordinate publicity and outreach strategies to support Honors events, initiatives, and student success stories.
  • Support website development, maintenance, and digital communications efforts.

5. Student Experience and Residential Collaboration
  • Coordinate with Housing and Residential Life regarding Honors housing initiatives and student programming.
  • Assist in planning and implementing activities that strengthen the Honors student community and enhance student engagement.
  • Support the development of a welcoming, inclusive, and student-centered environment that promotes intellectual curiosity, leadership, and belonging.

6. Data Management and Assessment
  • Collect, organize, and manage programmatic and event-related data, including Honors Program and Honors Colloquium assessment data.
  • Assist with reporting, assessment, and operational tracking to support program evaluation and strategic planning.
  • Coordinate and participate in Honors Program staff meetings and collaborative planning efforts.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform additional duties related to the Honors Program and the Office of National Fellowships & Academic Opportunities as assigned by the Director.
LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
Personal computers; Web software, database software, desktop publishing software; all equipment necessary to produce reports, presentations, and publications.
Required Qualifications
REQUIRED:
1. Bachelor's degree.
2.. Minimum of three years of demonstrated experience in program coordination, event planning, or administrative operations.
3.Demonstrated experience managing budgets and financial processes.
4. Demonstrated strong organizational, project management, and multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment.
5. Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and maintain effective operational systems and processes.
6. Demonstrated strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
7. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse constituencies, including students, faculty, staff, administrators, and external partners.
8. Demonstrated experience utilizing technology and digital tools to support communications, programming, and operations.
9.Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a highly engaged team environment.
10. Demonstrated commitment to supporting diverse student populations and fostering an inclusive educational environment.
Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED:
1. Demonstrated experience working in a college or university Honors Program or comparable academic environment.
2. Demonstrated experience supporting curriculum coordination or academic program administration.
3. Demonstrated experience coordinating large-scale public programs or lecture series.
4. Demonstrated supervisory experience.
5. Demonstrated experience with strategic budgeting and financial planning.
6. Demonstrated familiarity with university administrative systems and platforms such as Kuali, Adobe Creative Suite, Excel, Brightspace, Starfish, PeopleSoft, or related systems.
