Seasonal Lifeguard Program Coordinator
A Seasonal Lifeguard Program Coordinator works closely with State Parks Regional Managers, Beach Managers, and Supervising Lifeguards while under the supervision and direction of the Lifeguard Program Manager. The coordinator ensures adequate staffing and assignment of lifeguards to meet public demand as required by safety standards for the operation of swimming areas operated by RIDEM. This position will assist in the recruitment of potential candidates for the State Lifeguard Program and will participate in the outreach to various organizations and attend events as needed. The Seasonal Lifeguard Coordinator will also develop, implement, and oversee in-service training for the Division's Lifeguard Program. The coordinator will also assist and participate in the administration of the State Lifeguard Certification Tests and bathing facility inspections outlined in the RI Drowning Prevention Act. They will work in coordination with the Recreational Safety Inspectors to ensure the latest Lifeguarding standards are followed in all aspects of the Division's Lifeguard and Water Safety Programs. The Lifeguard Coordinator will also, as needed, fill in as a supervising Lifeguard at one of the Division's facilities.
An employee in this classification must be a RI State Certified Lifeguard and preferably an American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard Instructor with certification and special training in First Aid, CPR, and Senior Lifesaving; individuals must maintain such certification as a condition of employment. Lifeguard Applicants must possess either current required State Surf or Non-Surf Lifeguard Certification along with current training cards or training certificates in Lifeguard Training, Standard First Aid, and CPR covering (All ages) Adult, Infant, and Child CPR at the time of appointment to the position. A candidate must be physically qualified to perform assigned duties as evidenced by a physician's certificate. Applicants for this classification must be 18 years of age.
