What is a recruiter?

Recruiters are professionals who help organizations find and hire suitable candidates for job openings. They may work internally within a company's human resources department or externally for staffing agencies. Recruiters source candidates, review resumes, conduct interviews, and coordinate the hiring process. Their goal is to match qualified individuals with roles that fit their skills and the employer's needs. Effective recruiters build strong networks and maintain relationships with both employers and job seekers.

What do recruiters do?

The primary role of a recruiter is to match job seekers with job vacancies based on a candidate’s credentials and a company’s needs. A recruiter seeks out qualified candidates, then serves as a liaison between the candidate and the company to meet the demands of both parties regarding job duties and compensation. Recruiters save companies time by weeding out unqualified or unfit job seekers, and they help job seekers by connecting them with opportunities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a recruiter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Recruiter, strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of talent acquisition strategies, and a background in human resources or business are essential, often supported by a bachelor’s degree. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), sourcing platforms like LinkedIn Recruiter, and HR certifications such as SHRM or PHR are commonly required. Excellent communication, active listening, and relationship-building abilities help recruiters stand out in engaging both clients and candidates. These skills are crucial for matching the right talent to organizational needs and ensuring a smooth hiring process.

What are some common challenges recruiters face when sourcing candidates, and how can they overcome them?

Recruiters often face challenges such as finding qualified candidates for hard-to-fill roles, standing out to top talent in a competitive market, and managing a high volume of applications efficiently. To overcome these hurdles, recruiters leverage creative sourcing strategies, utilize advanced applicant tracking systems, and build strong employer branding to attract passive candidates. Additionally, maintaining clear communication with hiring managers and regularly updating sourcing techniques can help ensure a smoother recruitment process.

Recruiter

Revivn

New York, NY • On-site

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, Retirement

Posted 24 days ago

Job description

Revivn is a profitable and rapidly growing company that helps enterprises manage their technology through our end of life software platform. We take electronic recycling one step further by repurposing hardware that still has remaining life and providing it to people who lack dedicated computer access and make it more affordable for people who may not be able to purchase new technology. Working with companies like Instacart, Lyft, Qualtrics, X, Gensler, and Spotify, we are changing the way companies view used technology with a new model that focuses on repurposing instead of recycling.
We're growing quickly and adding a second Recruiter to our Talent team. We're looking for someone who takes real ownership of every search, someone who stays a step ahead, keeps hiring managers informed without being asked, follows up with candidates quickly, and knows how to create momentum when a search gets tough.
This is a high-impact role with a lot of variety and visibility across the business. You'll partner closely with leaders and hiring managers to find and close exceptional talent across executive, sales, engineering, and operations roles. You won't just manage reqs, you'll help us raise the bar for who we hire and how we hire as Revivn continues to grow.
What You'll Do
  • Own the full-cycle recruiting. Manage searches from kickoff through close across executive, GTM, operations, facilities, engineering, product, finance, and more, balancing a high volume of roles without sacrificing quality.
  • Build your own pipeline. Use LinkedIn, Indeed, Greenhouse, cold outreach, referrals, and creative sourcing strategies to find great candidates.
  • Partner closely with hiring managers. Understand what each team needs, develop strong job descriptions, build thoughtful search strategies, and keep hiring managers informed throughout the process.
  • Be a thought partner. Develop a strong understanding of Revivn and our teams so you can bring your own point of view, challenge assumptions, and help leaders think through what they actually need.
  • Create a great candidate experience. Build genuine relationships with candidates, move quickly, communicate clearly, and make sure people know where they stand throughout the process.
  • Raise the hiring bar. Look beyond checking the boxes on a job description to identify people who have the skills, mindset, and values to be successful at Revivn long term.
  • Create a Culture of Recruiting. Help make recruiting something the entire organization participates in. Partner with leaders and employees to build their networks, generate referrals, identify great talent, and create a culture where we're always thinking about who we want to work with next.

What We Are Looking For
  • Relentless Ownership: You can't let a role sit. You update hiring managers before they ask and chase feedback the same day, treating every search like it's personal.
  • Business Influence: You learn the business deeply enough to have a point of view. You're comfortable pushing back when an ask doesn't make sense and can influence both hiring managers and candidates.
  • Builder Mentality: You know how to build a pipeline from scratch. You're comfortable with outbound sourcing and don't rely on inbound applicants to fill your roles.
  • High Standards. You care about getting the right person, not just closing the req. You balance urgency with a high bar and are willing to keep searching when the right candidate isn't there yet.

About You
  • 3+ years of full-cycle recruiting experience, ideally with a combination of agency and in-house recruiting experience.
  • Experience recruiting across a variety of functions and levels. You're comfortable switching from an operational search to a technical or senior-level search and learning what great looks like for each.
  • You've successfully managed a high volume of open roles and know how to prioritize competing searches while keeping hiring managers and candidates informed.
  • You're comfortable sourcing and engaging passive candidates and have experience with tools like LinkedIn Recruiter, Indeed, and an ATS such as Greenhouse.
  • You thrive in a growing, changing environment where priorities can shift quickly. You stay organized, communicate proactively, and don't need someone reminding you what needs to happen next.

If this sounds like you, apply! If you don't meet all of the qualifications but think you could be a match, we'd still love the chance to review your application.
We embrace diversity and are committed to fostering an inclusive environment. At Revivn, we encourage people from all ages, abilities, and experiences to apply. Revivn does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, ancestry, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital or family status, disability, gender, gender identity or expression, pregnancy or caregiver status, veteran status, or any other legally protected status.
At Revivn, we prioritize transparency about our salary throughout the entire recruitment process. Be prepared to chat about compensation on your initial screen so that we can ensure alignment. If salary expectations and ranges are out of sync, we believe it is kind to respect everyone's time and may discontinue conversations.
But, here at Revivn, we ALSO believe in investing in the lifetime value of each individual we meet and interact with. (We love knowing good humans and supporting them in whatever they do). We know that if it isn't a good fit at the moment, it doesn't necessarily mean that it won't be a good fit in the future as we both continue to grow! We work to remain in contact with prospective candidates if the recruitment process ends early on.
For all job openings, we consider candidates with various backgrounds and levels of experience. When we give an offer it is based on individual skills and experience, as well as how that stacks up against other employees in the role. All of our ranges account for growth within the role, so in most cases, you should expect to join closer to the entry point of the band. You will have the opportunity to grow your salary over time.
The base range for a Recruiter is expected to be between $85,000 and $100,000/year. Your exact offer may vary based on these factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, and experience. The compensation package will also include comprehensive benefits such as medical, dental, and vision coverage, along with a 401(k) plan.
