Position Overview:

The Town of Avon, Colorado, is accepting applications for a Recreation - Program Instructor II Part -Time Year-Round

The Recreation Program Instructor IIis responsible for supervising, providinginstruction, implementing, and participating in age-appropriate activities for the Recreation Department's afterschool, school's out and/or Summer Camp programs. This position is a school-aged lead qualified position and can be summer camp seasonal or part-time year-round.

Essential Functions:
1. Supervise, interact, and provide care in a calm, safe, playful, and engaging environment for children.
2. Develop and implement daily activities for the after-school program to include homework help, plan and
supervise games and prep materials for crafts.
3. Oversee Program Instructor I and work collaboratively with Program Instructor III, Recreation Program
Instructor III and/or Recreation Programs Coordinator
4. Conduct sign-in and sign-out procedures and is always accountable for the whereabouts of children.
5. Provide leadership to Program Instructor I by following routine and procedures.
6. Transport children in a 15-person passenger van (Per State Childcare Licensure requirements, employee
must be 20 years old to drive a van)
7. Follow Colorado State School-aged licensing policies.
8. Maintain proper safety precautions to prevent accidents for children and staff.
9. Report any injuries to the Recreation Programs Supervisor and follow up with an Incident Report.
10. Comply with all Town of Avon safety and health policies and procedures, including the use of protective
equipment and clothing, to ensure all possible safety measures are observed, enforce the rules of the
childcare area and the Recreation Center to promote a safe work environment.

Qualifications

1. Knowledge and interest of children and concern for their proper care and well-being
2. Dependable, patient, creative, caring, requires minimal supervision and neat in appearance.
3. Ability to perform physical duties requiring a full range of body movements.
4. Ability to handle confidential issues appropriately.
5. Ability to follow directions and effectively communicate with children, Recreation Center staff,
school officials and parents.
6. Ability to manage multiple tasks, handle emergency situations, and make sound decisions

Special Requirements:
Program Instructor II requires a minimum age of 18 years old. Verifiable experience of at least three months full-time or equivalent part-time (460 contact hours), paid or volunteer experience working with school aged children (5-12 years old). Candidates that are close to obtaining these hours will be considered. Possession of a current CPR/AED/First Aid certification is required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire. A valid State of Colorado Driver's License is required.
