Job description

The Opportunity
The Recreation Therapy Aide (RTA) supports the delivery of both planned and spontaneous recreational opportunities that promote residents' engagement, independence, and overall well-being. This role helps residents maintain and develop skills, build meaningful relationships, and foster social connections within a supportive care environment.
What You Will Do

  • Maintain accurate and timely departmental records and complete all required documentation, including Resident Assessments/Re-Assessments, Care Planning, MDS Coding/RAPs, Progress Notes, ActivityPro entries, and monthly calendars.

  • Participate in the ongoing evaluation of the recreation program and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.

  • Ensure recreation supplies, equipment, and resources are maintained in good working condition in accordance with infection prevention and control standards, and report any deficiencies to the Program Manager.

  • Work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.

  • May involve travel within the province for education, training, and meetings as required.

What You Bring

  • A diploma or degree from a post-secondary program in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related field from a recognized college or university.

  • Current enrollment in a post-secondary diploma or degree program in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related field, with the expectation of program completion within three years of hire.

  • Knowledge of and experience in delivering recreation and leisure services in a healthcare or long-term care setting is considered an asset.

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic care environment.

  • Must be able to provide a current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check, including a Criminal Record Check, or be willing to obtain one.
