Job description

The City of Lenexa’s Parks & Recreation Department is seeking a Recreation Program Instructor to support Preschool Pals, a fun and engaging early childhood program at the Lenexa Rec Center. This role helps create a positive first learning experience for children ages 3.5–5 by leading activities, preparing lessons, and fostering a welcoming environment.

Schedule:

This position works up to 12 hours per week, primarily on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. This is a year-round, part-time position.

Position Summary:

The Recreation Program Instructor leads preschool-aged participants through a variety of enriching activities, including arts and crafts, science projects, activity centers, and other hands-on learning experiences. The instructor develops and delivers curriculum that supports creativity, exploration, and social development, serving as a positive representative of the City of Lenexa.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and prepare engaging curriculum and lesson plans for Preschool Pals programming.
  • Lead and supervise program participants in classroom activities.
  • Assist with promoting classes, including preparing content for Town Talk and other marketing materials as requested.
  • Help create a fun, safe, and inclusive environment for all participants.
  • Maintain program materials and assist with classroom setup and cleanup.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years of experience in instruction, childcare, or customer service.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or the ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Starting rate of pay is $16.50 per hour with annual raises.

Physical and Environmental Factors: Work may take place both indoors and outdoors. The position requires the ability to lift, carry, and move materials related to recreation programs and classroom activities.
