 Reporting to an Director of Resident Programs, the Recreation Aide is a critical role within our communities as it impacts the lives of residents.

What You’ll Be Doing: 

Join the Long Term Care team as a Recreation Aide and become an integral part of a dynamic environment focused on enhancing the lives of residents. In this role, you'll cultivate a profound connection with residents, gaining insight into their unique experiences. By fostering relationships with residents and their families, you'll provide diverse support options and engaging program selections to promote their overall health and happiness. Your individual contributions, alongside collaborative teamwork, will play a pivotal role in nurturing a home culture centered on empowering residents to live life to the fullest each day.

 

How You’ll Succeed:

·         Contribute to the development and refinement of programs and initiatives

·         Prepare the daily activities providing physical, cognitive and emotional enjoyment

·         Support in assessing residents' interests, needs, and progress.

·         Maintain accurate records of programs and resident involvement in accordance with departmental guidelines. Provide regular updates on resident participation and feedback to the Team Leader

·         Foster social interaction among residents by leading designated activities or special events.

·         Assist new residents in getting acquainted with the facility and its recreation program, facilitating introductions to other residents, and encouraging conversation and social engagement among them

 

Who you are:

·         A post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or other related field from an indigenous Institute, private career college, college of applied arts and technology, another degree granting Institution or equivalent work experience working with seniors

·         Experience in working with seniors including an understanding of motivation concepts with seniors.

·         Understanding of leisure principles.

·         You must be legally eligible to work in Canada or have a valid work permit

·         You must successfully pass a Vulnerable Sector Check and/or Criminal Record Check applicable to the appropriate province
