Position: Sports Coach/Facility Attendant Recreation Leader

Salary Range: $17.00 - $17.50


The Greater Vallejo Recreation District is a Special Service District that has been serving area residents for over sixty years. As a Special Service District, GVRD operates as a separate government agency from the City of Vallejo. GVRD manages 407 acres of public park space including 20 neighborhood parks, 10 community parks, 6 special purpose parks, and Olympic-size swimming pool and 4 community centers. GVRD maintains over 1,000 acres of public land.


GVRD is governed by a five-member Board of Directors. With 30 plus full time and approximately 155 part-time and seasonal employees, GVRD operates on a 2025-2026 fiscal year budget of $12.969 million for general fund operations and Measure K funding amounting to $2.2 million. The Measure K funding is being utilized to purchase necessary equipment, improve parks, facilities.


SPORTS COACH/FACILITY ATTENDANT RECREATION LEADER
Class Specifications are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed by employees in the

DEFINITION

To perform a variety of tasks and duties, in support of GVRD and GVRD Sports Gym; to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment to the guests; to lead in recreation activities and special events.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives immediate supervision from higher level staff, Recreation Coordinator, Assistant Recreation Coordinator, Sr. Recreation Leader.


ESSENTIAL AND MARGINAL FUNCTION STATEMENTS-Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:


  • Collect and record daily entrance fees and concession fees; record payments using the CivicRec Software; issue receipts.
  • Register the public for Sports Programs.
  • Resolve conflicts among guests; respond to the publics concerns and/or issues.
  • Monitor activities within the Sports Gym and/or outside the Sports Gym.
  • Provide information to the public.
  • Report need for inventory of equipment and supplies to the Recreation Coordinator.
  • Perform first aid as necessary.
  • Report directly any safety concerns and/or conflicts to the Recreation Coordinator.


Marginal Functions:
1. Assist in the janitorial duties and upkeep of the Sports Gym.
2. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.


QUALIFICATIONS


Knowledge of:

  • General recreation principles and practices.
  • Basic knowledge of art and craft techniques, games, and sports.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Safety measures.


Ability to:

  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Learn recreation activities, rules, and policies needed to run the Sports Gym.
  • Resolve conflicts among guests.
  • Respond to the publics concerns and/or issues.
  • Attend monthly meetings and trainings related to work.
  • Work effectively under the supervision of the Recreation Coordinator.


Experience and Training Guidelines

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:


  • Experience:

Some experience with recreation programs, youth and the public are desirable.

  • Training:

None required.


Education/License or Certificate

  • C.P.R. and First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain within six months of hire date.


Minimum Age/Experience:

  • Must be minimum 18 years of age to apply.
  • Some experience with recreation programs, youth and the public are desirable.
