RECREATION THERAPIST

Location: St Francis LIFE Riverfront, Wilmington, DE

Status: Full time

Shift: Mon to Fri, 8 am to 430 pm, no nights/weekends/on call/holiday shifts

Position Purpose:

Plan, develop, and implement therapeutic recreational activities for all participants, including those with Alzheimer's and related dementia. Provide direction and support to recreation assistants and other staff and ensure quality improvement within the recreation department.

Position Information:

Home visits may be required at times based on the participant's care plan and the need for recreational therapy assessments in the community.

Local travel in the New Castle County area required.

What you will do:

  • Manage daily operations of the recreational therapy department, including staffing, assessments, and referrals.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and various assessments.

  • Plan and implement treatments to address participants' diverse needs, coordinating with other departments as necessary.

  • Plan and oversee activities for dementia-specific populations, including coordinating personal care and providing support to staff.

  • Lead quality assessment and performance improvement activities.

  • Develop discipline-specific standards of care for the activities department.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Therapy related field OR NCCAP Activity Professionals Certification.

  • Minimum of two (2) years demonstrated experience in therapeutic recreation related services with geriatric population.

  • Valid Drivers License and use of personal vehicle for home care/community visit requirements.

  • Minimum of one (1) year documented experience working with a frail or elderly population or if less than one (1) year of experience, must receive appropriate training onsite upon hire.

  • Must manage conflict well, be customer focused and be able to adapt to ongoing change with regard to work priorities and be flexible with work priorities.

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, conflict management, problem solving, critical thinking and customer service skills.

  • Ability to work independently with organizational agility, adaptability and flexibility with work priorities as well as ability to prioritize workload.

  • Superior written, verbal communication and presentation skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; familiar with email and calendaring systems.

  • Up to 10% travel within the geographic region.
