Position Summary Facilitate the health and fitness of senior citizens; instruct group exercise classes; provide a broad range of physical education and recreation activities designed to enhance the quality of life of older adults and maintain records of senior participants. Essential and Supplemental Functions ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the functions listed below. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation. Plan, prepare and implement fitness exercise routines for fitness classes; monitor participants and demonstrate exercises in a correct and safe manner.
Prepare facility for exercise classes; set up music, chairs, weights, exercise mats and bands; perform safety check of facility and equipment; return exercise equipment and supplies to proper storage after use. Instruct seniors in water therapy exercises in adaptive aquatics program; procure items as needed for programs and special events. Work directly with volunteers to teach class; participate in special events as required.
Maintain records of senior participants including attendance and volunteer hours; complete and submit monthly reports. Attend senior affairs training sessions; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of senior fitness and wellness. Attend senior affairs staff meetings; inform assigned supervisor of class status or issues as required.
Assist in the training of new and volunteer staff as needed; assist in the recruitment of volunteer staff. Receive, document and deposit cash received for participation in program activities. Promote senior health and fitness activities; distribute marketing material including posters and flyers.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS: Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements Education directly related to the minimum requirements below may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
High school diploma or GED; and Two (2) years of recreation or fitness experience. Experience working with senior citizens preferred. Possession of a valid Group Exercise Certification preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire. Possession of a valid City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire. Working Conditions Environmental: Indoor and outdoor recreational facilities; exposure to noise; work closely with others; work in or around water; exposure to computer screens.
Physical: Essential and supplemental functions may require walking, standing or sitting for prolonged periods; repeated bending, kneeling, reaching above shoulder; moderate or light lifting and carrying; operating motorized equipment and vehicles.
