Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Light Equipment Operator/ General Laborer is responsible for regulating traffic flow in and out of the DCRR bldg. Interacting with, and providing customer service in a professional and respectable manor. Sorting and prescreening of loads. Maintaining facility and property cleanliness and organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Perform preventive maintenance and inspect fluids and hoses on assigned equipment
  • Prescreen, remove and recover any bulky items that can not go through processing line
  • Transfer material from the tip floor to the backhoe operator
  • Maintain cleanliness both inside and outside of the building, manually or by use of equipment
  • Ensure belts are on track and in good shape also monitor the quality of material coming off the belts
  • Communicate with transfer station manager on any problematic construction and MSW loads
  • Have good, fluid communication with both loader operators regarding need of heavy equipment on tip floor
  • Ensure loads end up in the correct location on the tip floors
  • Ensure tires or appliances pulled are transferred to designated areas
  • Spot check to ensure there are no hazardous materials, or non-recyclable items in loads
  • Assist facility manager with any maintenance as requested
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to learn and operate other heavy equipment.
  • Perform other job duties in time with proper training
  • May be required to obtain various certifications related to assigned area of responsibility

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  1. High school diploma or GED
  2. Previous experience with heavy or light equipment

COMPENTENCIES:

  4. Punctuality

WORK CONDITIONS
Outdoor environment; exposure to extreme weather conditions; work with and around heavy machinery; exposure to dust and fumes from motorized equipment; exposure to noise, odors and gases; exposure to heavy traffic conditions, possible exposure to toxic chemicals.
