GEICO is seeking an experienced leader to head its established eDiscovery & Records Management (EDRM) function within the Legal Department. Our core platforms are live and documented and delivering measurable value. We are looking for a leader to operate, scale, and elevate this function: sharpening defensible processes, advancing our AI and automation strategy, maturing information governance, developing the team, and delivering increasing value to the business.

This position reports to the Senior Director of Corporate Litigation, Investigations and eDiscovery

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and grow a team of eDiscovery and records professionals; drive organizational design as the program scales.
  • Own the defensibility and quality of end-to-end eDiscovery operations - legal holds, identification, preservation, collection, processing, ECA, review, and production - as the accountable program leader.
  • Set and execute the function's AI and automation strategy, including ROI measurement, in partnership with Legal Technology.
  • Manage the legal-technology vendor relationships(review platform, legal-hold system, collection/conversion services, and records vendors) for cost, performance, and ROI.
  • Partner with Legal Technology and cross-functional teams (IT, Messaging, Data Security, Privacy, Claims) on the technology roadmap - including document management strategy, legal hold service integration, and workflow automation.
  • Advise attorneys and senior leadership on complex eDiscovery questions, discovery strategy, and evolving legal/regulatory obligations.
  • Continuously improve processes to reduce risk, increase productivity, and control spend; maintain workflow documentation and standards as the system of record.
  • Appropriately assess risk in business decisions, adhering to policy, applying judgment, and driving compliance.
  • Serve as the senior point of escalation for eDiscovery matters across the Legal Department and the Company.

Qualifications

  • 4-year degree in a technology or related field, or equivalent experience; JD preferred.
  • 10+ years in eDiscovery, legal operations, or legal technology, including experience leading and developing teamsand managing a function or program.
  • Demonstrated experience operating mature eDiscovery platforms(e.g., cloud review, legal-hold, and M365 collection tools) at scale.
  • Experience with AI/GenAI or TAR in document review, including defensibility and cost/ROI considerations.
  • Strong background in information governance and records management(retention, legal holds, collaboration-data and physical-records lifecycle).
  • Experience managing legal-technology vendors, contracts, and spend.
  • Deep understanding of eDiscovery and its relationship to adjacent disciplines (compliance, records, information governance, IT, data privacy/protection, and security).
  • Excellent communication and advisory skills with senior management, in-house and outside counsel, and cross-functional partners.

Location:

  • This is a hybrid role, on-site 3 days per week at Chevy Chase, MD or New York City, NY.


Annual Salary

$146,575.00 - $229,600.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
