Job description

CORPORATE ACCOUNTING INTERN — W. R. MEADOWS, INC., HAMPSHIRE, IL

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a motivated Accounting Intern to join our finance team in a manufacturing environment. This internship is designed for a student or recent graduate who wants hands-on exposure to general accounting, internal processes, and business operations during the fall semester. Depending on business needs and the progress of assigned projects, there may be an opportunity for the internship to continue into the winter. The intern will support day-to-day accounting activities while helping document key processes that strengthen consistency, accuracy, and internal controls.

Schedule and Work Environment

This is a temporary internship position based in the corporate headquarters of a manufacturing company. This is not a remote position; the internship is intended to be primarily on site so the intern can receive hands-on training, build working relationships with the accounting team, and learn directly from day-to-day business and manufacturing activities. Some schedule flexibility may be considered after the first couple of months, depending on performance, business needs, and the intern’s ability to work independently, but the goal is to provide meaningful in-person training and learning.

The schedule may be part-time or full-time depending on business needs and the candidate’s availability. The pay rate is $22 to $25 per hour, depending on the candidate’s experience, coursework, and relevant skills. The intern will work closely with accounting personnel and receive guidance from experienced finance team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with documenting accounting processes, workflows, and standard operating procedures.
  • Support general accounting tasks such as data entry, account reconciliations, invoice review, and filing of accounting records.
  • Help maintain accurate documentation for month-end close, accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory-related accounting, and other finance activities.
  • Work with accounting team members to identify process gaps, clarify procedures, and organize reference materials.
  • Prepare basic schedules, summaries, and reports to support accounting reviews and internal analysis.
  • Learn how accounting supports manufacturing operations, including cost awareness, purchasing, inventory movement, and production-related transactions.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned by the accounting or finance team.

What You Will Learn

  • Fundamentals of general accounting in a real business setting.
  • How manufacturing companies track, organize, and use financial information.
  • Best practices for process documentation and internal controls.
  • How accounting teams support month-end close, reporting, and operational decision-making.
  • Professional communication, organization, and analytical skills used in finance roles.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial terminology.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to organize information clearly and follow established procedures.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional, dependable, and able to handle confidential information appropriately.

Preferred Skills

  • Interest in corporate accounting, analytics, or cost accounting.
  • Experience with documentation, flowcharts, checklists, or procedure writing.
  • Familiarity with ERP or accounting systems is helpful but not required.
