Job Description:
The ideal candidate will possess expertise across several sectors of the music industry, such as artist management, record label operations, music publishing, music marketing, distribution, rights management, live entertainment, and the commercial strategies that support artists, creators, and music businesses.
The Music Business/Management Department within the Professional Education Division at Berklee College of Music invites applications for a part-time faculty member with broad professional experience across the music industry. We are seeking an educator-practitioner with a comprehensive understanding of the contemporary music business and the versatility to teach across multiple areas of the undergraduate Music Business/Management curriculum.
The ideal candidate will possess expertise across several sectors of the music industry, such as artist management, record label operations, music publishing, music marketing, distribution, rights management, live entertainment, and the commercial strategies that support artists, creators, and music businesses. Candidates should be able to connect foundational music business concepts to current industry trends, emerging issues, and changing business models.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach a variety of undergraduate courses across the Music Business/Management curriculum.
  • Deliver engaging instruction that combines foundational music business principles with current industry practices.
  • Introduce students to key sectors of the music industry, including rights, revenue streams, stakeholders, contracts, marketing, publishing, recordings, live music, and career development.
  • Incorporate case studies, applied projects, industry examples, and experiential learning into course delivery.
  • Hold office hours and advise students in their academic and professional development.
  • Participate in department meetings and department-sponsored activities as needed.
  • Maintain active engagement with the music industry to ensure course content remains current and relevant.
  • Work with the department in its ongoing review, revision, and development of the Music Business/Management curriculum.
  • Advance the student experience and support the work of the Department, Division, and College.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in music business, business, marketing, communications, business administration, law, education, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2-years of college-level teaching experience.
  • Significant professional experience working across multiple sectors of the music industry.
  • Broad knowledge of the contemporary music business, including multiple areas such as record label operations, music publishing, artist management, music marketing, distribution, rights administration, live entertainment, and emerging business models.
  • Familiarity with current industry trends, including streaming, digital marketing, creator economy business models, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies.
  • Established professional network within the music and entertainment industries.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access.
  • Student-centered approach to teaching and mentorship.

START DATE
Fall 2026. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
Hiring Range:
Part-time Faculty as of 9/1/26: $66.96-$138 per hour.Salaries for faculty positions vary by academic rank; Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor. Candidates are placed into a rank following the final completion of the interview process, based on qualifications, experience, and alignment with institutional needs.
