Job description

Summary The City of Red Oak offers college students and recent graduates the opportunity to gain real-world experience within an award-winning Communications and Marketing Department. This internship provides hands-on experience in graphic design, content creation, social media, website management, research, event coordination, and communication strategy. Under the guidance of experienced professionals, interns will contribute to a variety of projects while receiving valuable mentorship and feedback.

Typical work schedules vary but will primarily be within operating hours (Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm) and are limited to up to 20 hours per week. Primary Duties & Responsibilities Support the Communications and Marketing team with day-to-day operations and a variety of communication, marketing, and outreach projects. Conduct research and gather examples, ideas, and best practices to support future City initiatives, programs, communication efforts, and events.

Assist with the creation of graphics, social media content, and other communication materials for City initiatives, programs, and events while maintaining City branding, ADA accessibility standards, and best practices. Collaborate with City departments to gather information and support communication efforts. Capture and edit photography and video of City events, programs, projects, daily operations, and community activities for use in marketing and public information efforts.

Assist with organizing and maintaining digital assets, files, and communication resources. Assist with the preparation and promotion of City-wide, departmental, and community events. Provide on-site support at events, including evenings or weekends, by assisting with setup, content capture, and public interaction.

Support the maintenance, updates, content management, and ongoing improvement of the City of Red Oak website. Participate in team meetings and contribute creative ideas for campaigns and public communication efforts. Complete an individualized capstone project based on the intern's interests, skills, and department needs.

Qualifications EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE High School diploma or GED required Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a college or university in a relevant Bachelor's or Master's academic program CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES Valid Texas Class C Driver's License with clear driving record Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Familiar with Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, or similar). Basic knowledge of marketing principles and techniques.

Experience creating graphics for social media, print, and digital platforms preferred. Basic photography and videography skills, including editing. Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
