ABOUT FIREFLY AEROSPACE

SUMMARY

Firefly has year-round engineering-focused internship opportunities for our locations in Texas. Both current undergrads and new graduates are encouraged to apply. As a Firefly Intern, you will support the Ground Support Equipment [GSE] Engineers through all stages of system design, construction, and activation.

Ideal candidates will know specific areas such as Mechanical Engineering Design, Electrical Engineering, Fluid System Design, Operations, Controls, or Construction. You will have the opportunity to gain design experience by developing novel solutions for challenging problems. These positions require degrees of creativity, flexibility, and collaboration. The ability to communicate effectively within multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural teams, with differing technical backgrounds, is an absolute must.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design could include preliminary concept generation, sizing, costing, detail design, architecture layout, and drawing creation
  • Construction could include reviewing designs with technicians, writing work instructions for fabrication, and conducting work inspections
  • Activation could include writing, reviewing, or running checkout procedures, customer handoff meetings, and documentation
  • Use engineering principles and fundamentals to provide novel solutions for technically challenging problems in the Internship focus area (Structural Design, Test, and Electrical Engineering, Fluid Systems, Test and Launch Operations, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Must be currently enrolled in either a BS or MS program (or a recent graduate) at an accredited four-year university or college.
  • Willing to work in a hands-on, constantly evolving environment
  • Detail-oriented, managing multiple priorities while maintaining focus towards a common goal
  • Strong comprehension of design fundamentals; Aerospace or Industry experience a plus
  • Communicates effectively, verbally and in writing
  • Able to effectively prioritize and execute tasks

Desired:

Candidates should preferably have a focus in one of the following areas

  1. 3D CAD, Structural Analysis & Design
  2. Fluid System design, equipment specification, valves & fitting specification
  3. Electrical or Computer Engineering, instrumentation, controls, data acquisition

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), you must be a U.S. citizen, a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
