Job description

St. Vincent de Paul Distribution Center

Location: Indianapolis, IN

Department: Distribution Center

Reports to: Distribution Center Director of Operations

Exempt/Non-Exempt: Hourly Non-Exempt

Full/Part-Time: Full-Time

Position Summary

This position is responsible for picking up scheduled material donations from donors in the community, loading and unloading the merchandise from our truck fleet, serving as a professional public-facing representative of St. Vincent de Paul overseeing the collection of donations from our warehouse receiving and dock donation area, and assisting individuals and families through our Neighbor Services department. This position requires the highest standards of professionalism and courtesy when working with our donors so their experience is positive and inspires them to donate again. This position also includes the operation of the clothing baler for the purpose of baling clothing and linens. This position is part of team schedule where all of these various responsibilities are built into a rotating schedule.

Common Responsibilities

  • Perform duties as a team member in a manner supportive of the department and Society
  • procedures, policies, and goals.
  • Protect the confidentiality of Society, customer, and client information.
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
  • Communicate with others in a courteous and helpful manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Delivering and Picking Up Items for Store #2 and the Food Pantry

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collect and transport donations made by home pickup and/or donation drop boxes on delivery truck as scheduled, which consists of picking up donated goods from a daily donation route, doing so in a timely & courteous manner, returning to the distribution center, and unloading the truck.
  • Understand St. Vincent’s donation policies in regard to merchandise that we cannot accept, communicating this when necessary to a donor in a polite and professional manner.
  • Transport scrap materials on the truck as scheduled to the scrap yard.
  • Provide tax deduction receipts to donors upon request.
  • Maintain daily/monthly truck logs.
  • Ensure proper vehicle inspection prior to use.
  • Operate the clothing and linens baler.
  • Work in the warehouse receiving dock, collecting material donations as they arrive.
  • Regularly maintain the cleanliness and organization of the warehouse receiving and dock area.
  • Cardboard breakdown and removal.
  • Delivering and picking up items for Mission 27 Shelby St. store and other St. Vincent de Paul facilities as required.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be required to frequently stand, walk, sit,

use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, push or pull. The required weight lifted or force exerted is often 50 lbs and more. Vision requirements include normal close (20 inches or less) and distance (20 feet or

more), depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Vision must be suitable for driving and navigating

uneven terrain while carrying heavy loads.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be exposed to frequent moving

mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions; often exposed to

vibration; and occasional wet or humid conditions (non-weather), and toxic or caustic chemicals. The

typical noise level in the environment is moderate.
