Job description

Job Overview

As a Receiving Associate, you will help ensure AFW products are safely received from the truck shipment to the warehouse before making its way to our customer's homes. The Receiving Associate is responsible for safely and efficiently loading, unloading, identifying, and tagging merchandise upon arrival. 

The ideal Receiving Associate develops strategies to improve receiving efforts, adheres to quality expectations and standards, and has excellent attention to detail. If you are eager to help our warehouses stay stocked with products and make a difference to the customers, then AFW is looking for you! 

This role offers strong career growth, with opportunities to advance to a Receiving Associate II and III. 

Full-time, hourly job in Marana, AZ

Job Responsibilities & Duties

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Breakdowns merchandise inside trailers and containers - unstacks and positions merchandise for removal from containers.

  • Accurately matches packing list to vendor labels and operates radio frequency (RF) scanners to ensure an accurate inventory count. 

  • Accurately identifies merchandise by vendor label and applies matching AFW label to the merchandise when directed by the AFW management team.

  • Safely loads and unloads merchandise to and from pallets and skids.

  • Possesses the ability to become certified on various warehouse equipment.

  • Appropriately and safely uses and operates the following after AFW certification and training: trailer chocks, forklift, reach truck, pallet jack, hand truck, load hoggs, dock plates and more. 

  • Lock Out Tag Out (L.O.T.O) equipment as needed.

  • Completes all tasks with correct lifting and team lifting techniques.

  • Ensures department, walking lanes, and nearby areas are clean and professional.

  • Works as a team member by interacting and communicating with fellow associates in a cooperative, constructive manner.

  • Other duties assigned/directed by supervisor.

  • All training will be provided by AFW.

This position (Receiving Associate I) has no supervisory responsibilities

Job Requirements

  • Commitments to AFW's safety policies and procedures, promotes awareness, and owns personal safety and the safety of all others at all times.

    •   Abides by all company policies and procedures.

  • Ability to become certified in the operation of warehouse equipment.

  • Ability to be trained on the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Previous experience operating warehouse equipment, such as forklift, pallet jack, and cherry picker preferred - but not required.

  • Have a strong independent work ethic.

  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.

  • Ability to work well with team members, management, and other departments. 

  • Knowledge of the correct lifting/team lifting techniques.

  • Capability to perform the correct lifting/team lifting techniques.

  • You have to work at heights! You will fill orders 0 to 35 feet above the ground.

  • Ability to have a flexible schedule and work all shifts, holidays, and weekends. 

  • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions accurately.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED is preferred.

Compensation

  • Pay Rate: Starting at $17/hour and up - dependent on experience

  • 3rd shift Premium - Additional $2.00/hr and Weekend Premium - Additional $2.00/hr

Physical Requirements

  • Capacity to maneuver in confined and at times congested areas.

  • Capability to stand, walk, stoop, & bend for 8 hours or more daily.

  • Lifting, gripping, bending, kneeling, stooping, and moving merchandise 8 hours or more daily.

  • Continuous use of arms, hands, fingers, eyes, legs, and back.

  • Ability to lift, lower, move, carry, push and pull all sizes of merchandise up to 100 lbs. and the skill to handle/manipulate merchandise up to 250 lbs. frequently.

  • Able to work in variable environments with different lighting, loud exterior noise, and flooring. 

  • Ability to work 0 to 35 feet above the ground.

Career Advancement Opportunities

  • Receiving Associate II:

    • Responsible for all Receiving Associate I duties while training new team members, operating lifts safely, performing basic STORIS tasks, tagging/scanning products, and supporting leadership by taking on additional projects and setting a positive example.

  • Receiving Associate III:

    • Performs all Receiving Associate I & II duties while training all associates, running advanced STORIS functions, managing transfers, reporting empty containers, completing safety audits, and supporting leadership through advanced responsibilities and team guidance.
