Do you bring strong knowledge of Subchapter K, partnership allocation methodologies, and REIT qualification rules? Deloitte's Real Estate Services Tax practice offers the opportunity to advise sophisticated clients, develop creative tax strategies, and apply innovative technology to complex real estate tax challenges.

Work You'll Do

As a Tax Manager in Deloitte's Investment Management-Real Estate Tax group, you'll provide federal tax consulting and compliance services to REITs, real estate private equity funds, joint ventures, and operating partnerships. You'll work directly with clients, lead tax engagement teams, collaborate with Deloitte specialists, and use advanced technology and data analytics to deliver practical, high-quality solutions. Deloitte's real estate practice combines tax expertise with broader industry knowledge to support clients across the real estate capital markets.

You'll advise clients on partnership life-cycle events, including formations, mergers, and initial public offerings, as well as inside and outside basis computations, Sections 704(c) and 743(b) computations, and Schedule K-1 processing. You'll also use proprietary technologies to help clients streamline tax compliance and achieve compliance across their organizations.

You'll build and maintain trusted client relationships across federal tax consulting and compliance engagements. Your advisory work will address REIT qualification, the impact of tax reform on pass-through entities and other real estate businesses, business restructuring, and tax controversy.

You'll oversee complex federal tax projects involving multiple entities and affiliates, using technical tax analysis, technology, and data-driven insights to develop effective client solutions. You'll manage engagement workflow, team resources, timelines, and billing while maintaining high standards for quality and client service.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • 5+ years in corporate tax experience
  • One of the following active accreditations obtained:
    • Licensed CPA in state of practice/primary office if eligible to sit for the CPA
    • If not CPA eligible:
      • Licensed Attorney
      • Enrolled Agent
      • Certifications:
        • Chartered Financial Advisor (CFA)
        • Certified Financial Planner (CFP)
  • Solid understanding of real estate tax technical and transaction skills, including partnership taxation, REIT taxation and qualification, partnership allocations, tax compliance, due diligence, acquisition/disposition planning and structuring, and experience with federal tax compliance, federal tax accounting and provisions, tax analysis, and tax research
  • Strong managerial experience with budgets, people and projects
  • Ability to perform job responsibilities within a hybrid work model that requires US Tax professionals to co-locate in person 2-3 days per week.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve
  • Limited immigration sponsorship may be available

  • Advanced degree such as Masters of Tax, JD, and/or LLM
  • Previous Big 4 or large CPA firm experience

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $100,350 to $205,000.

You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
