We are looking for self-motivated collaborative individuals with a passion for digital innovation, teamwork, and problem solving. As a Data & AI Intern within HNTB's Corporate IT Team, you'll have the opportunity to work closely with our talented tech team. You'll gain hands-on experience, contribute to real-world projects, and learn from industry experts. This internship is focused on applied AI delivery and enablement across no/low-code platforms, copilots, and cloud AI services. You'll contribute to Data & AI initiatives including analytics automation, AI copilots, prompt/workflow prototyping, and governed experimentation with foundation models in enterprise platforms. You'll learn enterprise AI governance basics, how copilots are designed/tested, and how to ship AI-enabled workflows responsibly in a large organization.
As an intern, you'll have the opportunity to learn and grow, so don't worry if you don't know everything right away. Be curious, ask questions, and take advantage of the learning experience!
Relocation and housing are not provided for this position.

What You'll Do:

  • Performs a variety of tasks which may be specific to a particular functional area of activity such as preparing reports, tracking and evaluating results, coordinating program developments, answering the phone, receiving messages, transmitting information, making copies, editing documents, handling routine inquires and making appointments.
  • Participates in meetings and interfaces with various teams.
  • Assists management in analyzing various data.
  • Works on special projects and provides research as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent plus enrolled in a related undergraduate or graduate program

What We Prefer:

  • Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for technology.
  • Familiarity with GenAI concepts (prompting, embeddings, RAG basics, model limitations).
  • Exposure to no/low-code platforms (e.g. Power Platform, Copilot Studio), cloud AI services (Azure/GCP/AWS) and workflow automation.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Angular, React, C#, C++).
  • Familiarity with databases, cloud computing, or networking concepts.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

What You'll Do:

  • Build and iterate no/low-code AI workflows (e.g., intake-to-resolution automations, knowledge/Q&A experiences, summarization, classification).
  • Prototype Copilot Studio experiences (topics, actions, connectors) and help test/evaluate responses.
  • Support Azure AI Foundry / AWS / Gemini experimentation inside approved dev platforms (prompting, evals, safety/gov checks).
  • Help create and maintain prompt libraries, reusable components, and lightweight documentation.
  • Assist with data preparation for AI use cases (profiling, basic transformations, labeling/ground truth support).
  • Contribute to evaluation: quality checks, simple test sets, compare outputs, capture failure modes.
  • Build dashboards / reporting on usage, outcomes, and adoption (where telemetry is available).
  • Work with foundation models through approved enterprise development platforms in a governed environment.
