Job description

Location:ย  ย  ย  Windsor, CT | Philadelphia, PAย

Are you a driven, commercially minded underwriting professional with deep expertise in international property? Do you thrive in a collaborative environment where your market knowledge and technical skills genuinely shape outcomes for large, complex clients? If so, this is your opportunity to make a significant impact on a high-performing team at one of the world's leading insurers.

About the Role

Swiss Re Corporate Solutions is seeking a talented International Property Underwriter to join our New England/Mid-Atlantic Commercial Property team. In this prominent role, you will leverage your expertise and market relationships to underwrite sophisticated global and domestic property programs for large, enterprise-sized corporations. This is a role where your technical acumen, negotiation skills, and broker relationships will be front and center - and where your contributions will directly influence our portfolio performance and market presence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of accounts, including fronted global property programs, ensuring quality, profitability, and alignment with underwriting strategy
  • Analyze and underwrite complex exposures, including Natural Catastrophe (Nat Cat) hazards, manmade risks, and diverse occupancy classes
  • Assess technical insurability of exposures and coverages on new business and renewal submissions with a rigorous, data-driven approach
  • Prepare quotations, structure programs, and deliver proposals in line with Swiss Re Corporate Solutions guidelines and risk appetite
  • Utilize Swiss Re tools and systems to develop competitive terms and conditions and maintain accurate risk information across information platforms
  • Build and grow a book of business through proactive marketing, prospecting, and origination of new opportunities in the New England/Mid-Atlantic region
  • Structure capacity deployment and negotiate key terms that align with our underwriting strategy across shared and layered, quota share, and single-carrier placements
  • Represent Swiss Re in meetings with clients, brokers, and Swiss Re Group entities, strengthening our brand and market presence
  • Mentor and coach less experienced underwriters, sharing knowledge and supporting team development
  • Lead internal and external projects, including technical, organizational, and client/market development initiatives
  • Collaborate with the alternative risk transfer group to structure innovative and tailored solutions for clients and brokers

About the Team

Our New England/Mid-Atlantic Commercial Property team is a diverse, inclusive, and collaborative group that values independent thinking as much as teamwork. We partner with brokers across the New England and Mid-Atlantic regions to deliver risk transfer solutions that range from ground-up quota share and shared and layered structures to single-carrier placements. North American Retail Property is a foundational line of business for Swiss Re Corporate Solutions - it sits at the heart of our brand and our value proposition to clients.

We also work closely with our alternative risk transfer group to design innovative, bespoke solutions that go beyond the conventional. Whether you are deep in technical analysis or building broker relationships, you will find a team that supports your growth, respects your expertise, and celebrates creative problem-solving.

About You

You are a confident communicator who builds genuine, lasting partnerships with brokers, clients, and colleagues alike. You bring an entrepreneurial mindset, thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, and take ownership of your decisions and results. You are comfortable managing multiple complex deals simultaneously and are energized by the challenge of structuring solutions for sophisticated, multinational clients.

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

  • 3-7 years of underwriting experience with medium to large corporate accounts, demonstrating a strong track record in commercial property
  • In-depth knowledge of commercial property underwriting in the New England/Mid-Atlantic region, including market dynamics, broker relationships, and regulatory landscape
  • Technical expertise in Nat Cat and manmade risk management, loss prevention, and the ability to analyze complex property exposures across diverse occupancy classes
  • Proficiency in underwriting tools, applications, and systems, with the ability to develop accurate terms, conditions, and pricing metrics
  • Strong broker and client network in the local region, with demonstrated ability to originate and grow a book of business

Additional preferred skills and qualifications:

  • Experience in the structuring and fronting of global programs, including knowledge of multinational insurance frameworks
  • Familiarity with Captive insurance structures and alternative risk transfer mechanisms
  • Experience with complex shared and layered program structures as well as 100% single-carrier business
  • Background working across diverse and heavy manufacturing occupancies
  • Strong negotiation skills with a track record of closing complex, multi-stakeholder deals
  • Comfort with regional travel, including air travel, for client and broker meetings

Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office at least three days per week.

The estimated base salary range for this position is $108,000 to $162,000. The specific salary offered for this, or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
