Student Success Advisor Description

We are currently seeking an experienced academic advisor to join the South College, Dallas team of Student Success Advisors (SSA). SSAs help the students set and achieve academic goals, acquire relevant information and services, and make responsible decisions consistent with interests, goals, abilities, and degree requirements.


The successful candidate will have knowledge and understanding of academic advising practices and be skilled in applying these practices in their work. They will understand the process of academic advising and how to deliver a personalized advising experience to each student, which includes academic outreach to at risk students, sharing program requirements, registration, and career planning.

Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with the Senior Director of Student Success/Director of Student Success on a daily basis to support individual and overall team success.
  • Help manage the student life cycle; new, continuing and re-entry. Assist students in understanding South College academic policies and procedures.
  • Meet with student advisee at the time of acceptance to the College to assist with acclimation to academic life including registering for courses, establishing goals and overcoming obstacles.
  • Proactively contact at-risk student advisees each week to provide resources and/or escalate issues to appropriate professionals (Director of Student Success, Dean of Academic and Student Services).
  • Assist in monitoring and managing student retention expectations for all students to achieve targeted persistence rates.
  • Meet with current students a minimum of once each quarter to register for the upcoming quarter, review academic plan, promote future goals, and address any areas of concern.
  • Consistently manage outlined Activities per QEP (Q1/Q2 Check ins and At Risk, Follow UP).
  • Monitor student progress for all students placed on probation and/or warning. Facilitate adherence to academic plan (if applicable.)
  • Maintain appropriate documentation in Campus Nexus/Web Client noting all student outreach and complete activities.
  • Assist and support institutional or department activities as assigned (welcome sessions, graduation, campus meetings, student programs etc.).
  • Other duties as deemed appropriate by the supervisor.

Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree Required (degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field preferred.)

Experience

  • One to three years' experience working in a post-secondary setting preferred.
