RCO Operators, or Remote Control Operators, are professionals responsible for operating and monitoring remote-controlled equipment, often in industrial settings such as railroads, manufacturing, or logistics. Their main duties include safely controlling machinery from a distance, ensuring operational efficiency, and adhering to safety protocols. RCO Operators must be highly attentive and knowledgeable about the equipment they manage, as their actions directly impact workplace safety and productivity. Training and certification are typically required for this role to ensure operators are skilled in using remote systems and responding to emergencies.

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

NewSat is seeking an Advanced-level Security Architect to support our U.S. Space Force (USSF) customer. This position leads the security architecture function for the cybersecurity services effort protecting a platform supporting more than 42 deployed environments across approximately 900 servers.

The Advanced Security Architect designs, evaluates, and governs the secure system architecture across these environments to include multiple Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) clusters and numerous non-containerized assets. Operating with little to no guidance, the architect defines security control baselines, drives Risk Management Framework (RMF) authorization activities, and provides authoritative technical direction to the cybersecurity team in complex, unstructured situations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Define and maintain the end-to-end security architecture for cloud environments spanning CUI, Secret Collateral, and TS/SCI-SAP enclaves, ensuring alignment with USSF security requirements.

• Architect secure baselines for hybrid cloud and on-premise infrastructure, including AWS GovCloud / commercial cloud tenant spaces, EKS clusters, and master-image-provisioned server fleets.

• Lead Risk Management Framework (RMF) activities — categorization, control selection, implementation guidance, and support to Authorization to Operate (ATO) packages — in coordination with the ISSM/ISSO and the Authorizing Official.

• Translate NIST SP 800-53 / 800-171, CNSSI 1253, and applicable Cross Domain Solution (CDS) requirements into enforceable architectural controls and reference designs.

• Evaluate system designs and change requests for security impact; produce architecture decision records, security views, and trade analyses for government stakeholders.

• Provide authoritative guidance to systems security analysts, vulnerability assessment analysts, and developers; review their work products and resolve complex architectural conflicts.

• Support continuous monitoring, vulnerability management, and incident response architecture across the deployed environment fleet.

• Brief government technical leadership and contribute to security sections of contract deliverables and reviews.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Active TS/SCI clearance with SAP eligibility; ability to meet program-directed access requirements (e.g., SBI, CI polygraph as imposed).

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.

• Demonstrated advanced proficiency in a cybersecurity / information assurance role, preferably with specified experience in security architecture for DoD or IC systems (Advanced proficiency: in-depth mastery, independent execution, ability to supervise).

• DoD 8140 advanced qualification baseline certification (CISM, CISSP-ISSAP, CISSP-ISSEP, CCNP Enterprise, GCIA, GDSA or GICSP) current at time of hire. Advanced degree may substitute for certification per company policy.

• Demonstrated expertise applying RMF, NIST SP 800-53 / 800-171, and CNSSI 1253 to authorize and sustain classified systems.

• Hands-on architecture experience with hybrid cloud (AWS), Kubernetes / container orchestration, and large-scale server environments.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Prior experience supporting USSF, Space RCO, or satellite ground system programs.

• Experience with Cross Domain Solutions (CDS) and multi-level / multi-enclave architectures.

• Familiarity with DevSecOps pipelines, Infrastructure-as-Code, and master-image / golden-image provisioning at scale.
