Job description

RC Mowers l We're Hiring
Field Service Technician
Full-Time | California (Fresno/Bakersfield Area)
We build full-size commercial autonomous and remote-operated mowing machines. They run on steep slopes, rough terrain, and hazardous environments for municipalities, DOTs, and commercial contractors who depend on them to perform.
When a machine is down, a customer is losing money and confidence. We're hiring a Field Service Technician in California to be the person who shows up, figures out what's wrong, and gets it back to work.
THE JOB
You'll report to our Customer Service Manager and own field service for RC Mowers customers across our region. That means diagnosing problems accurately, completing repairs correctly the first time, and leaving the customer with a machine that runs and confidence that we stand behind it.
This role is built around accountability. You manage your own schedule, your own territory, and your own results. The work is technical, the customers are real, and the standard is high.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Diagnose and repair remote-operated mowers at customer sites using work orders, service procedures, and your own expertise
  • Perform routine maintenance to prevent breakdowns before they happen
  • Document all repair and maintenance activities accurately and completely
  • Communicate clearly with customers about what's wrong, what it takes to fix, and when they'll be back up and running
  • Follow up after service to confirm the customer is satisfied and the machine is performing
  • Manage your schedule to maximize productivity and minimize unnecessary travel
  • Maintain your tools and equipment in proper working order
  • Submit accurate travel expense and mileage reports on time
  • Stay current on new models and repair procedures through company training
  • Share field insights with the technical team and flag opportunities to improve service processes

WHAT YOU BRING
  • Hands-on mechanical or electrical service experience - you've diagnosed and fixed real equipment in the field, not just in a shop
  • Mechanically inclined with strong troubleshooting instincts: you find the root cause, you don't just swap parts
  • Ability to read and work from service documentation, wiring diagrams, and technical procedures
  • Professional and composed at customer sites - you represent RC Mowers in every interaction
  • Organized and self-managed: you run your own schedule and stay accountable without someone looking over your shoulder
  • Clear written communication - your work orders and closing notes need to tell the full story
  • Comfortable with significant travel across our region - starting in California with potential to expand across the U.S.

Bonus Points:
  • Experience servicing mowers, outdoor power equipment, vehicles, or mobile machinery
  • Familiarity with hydraulic or electrical systems
  • Experience with remote-operated or autonomous equipment

WHO FITS HERE
You take pride in doing it right. A machine that leaves your hands should work better than when you found it - and you know the difference between a repair that holds and one that doesn't.
You're comfortable being the expert in the room at a customer site. You can explain a technical problem in plain language, keep the customer calm, and close the visit with their confidence intact.
You're self-directed. No one is scheduling your day or standing over your shoulder. You manage your time, your territory, and your results.
You're a learner. The product evolves, and you stay current. When you see something in the field that could make the next repair faster or better, you say something.
ABOUT RC MOWERS
We design and build autonomous and remote-operated mowing equipment for difficult environments. We're not chasing a concept; we're a growing, profitable company shipping real machines to real customers - municipalities, DOTs, and commercial contractors across North America.
We're based near Green Bay, Wisconsin. The company is under 50 people. You'll know everyone's name within a week.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Compensation commensurate with experience. Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) with company match, paid vacation and sick leave, and disability, life, and accident insurance.
Hiring subject to background check and drug screen. RC Mowers provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local laws.
