Position: Registered Behavior Technician

  4. Experience related to the specific responsibilities and competencies of the registered behavior technician role

General Summary:

Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) are responsible for traveling between buildings to assist the board certified behavior analyst (BCBA) to implement behavior reduction and skill acquisition plans. Behavior plans may include procedures on how to arrange the environment to prevent challenging behaviors, instructions for how to teach the student to communicate needs more appropriately, and procedures for how to respond to unsafe behaviors. The RBT will be responsible for working with students in all skill areas including social skills, activities of daily living, communication and behavior. The RBT will be responsible for modeling behavior strategies and interventions for teachers and paras and will follow the exit plan created by the BCBA to fade support back to the classroom staff. All behavior plans are based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. The RBT will be under direct supervision of the BCBA and will participate in weekly meetings to review behavior plans as well as to provide ongoing training and professional development.

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Works with children and adolescents with developmental disabilities, emotional behavior disorders, and general education students exhibiting problem behavior.
  2. Maintains a safe environment for all students and staff members.
  3. Supports the BCBAs in designing and implementing behavior plans and acquisition plans created by a BCBA.
  4. Supports BCBAs in collecting data on all target behaviors and monitoring data on student performance and assists in data-informed decision making.
  5. Participates as an effective team member across all settings in a manner that promotes collaboration for student success by carrying out team decisions as assigned.
  6. Assists the teacher with implementation of behavioral support strategies and plans in the classroom that respect individual differences, foster student achievement and maintain supportive and inclusive environments.
  7. Completes daily session notes.
  8. Collaborates with BCBA during observations.
  9. Assists with the preparation of behavioral resources.
  10. Maintains a professional working relationship with all building staff and parents.
  11. Maintain confidentiality aligned with both Willard Public Schools code as well as the BACB code of ethics.
  12. Supports BCBAs with conducting Behavior Skills Training with staff to help them implement behavior intervention plans.
  13. Carries out work responsibilities effectively under pressure of deadlines, difficult situations, interruptions and new or emergency situations.
  14. Will participate in required Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training annually.
  15. Meets applicable district physical ability as well as health and safety guidelines for the position.
  16. Demonstrates respect for students, staff and parents in all situations.ย
