Job description

Objective/Purpose of the PositionThe Barback is the engine that keeps the bar running , ensuring the bar is fully stocked, immaculately clean, and ready to deliver excellent service through the busiest moments of the night.
The Barback works closely with the General Manager, Assistant General Manager, and bar team to uphold service standards, responsible alcohol service, and compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.Tasks/ResponsibilitiesBar Support
  • Stock, restock, and rotate beer, wine, spirits, mixers, garnishes, ice, and glassware throughout service.
  • Participate in weekly inventory
  • Anticipate bartenders' needs in real time during high-volume service - keep wells full and stations clean.
  • Cut, prep, and replenish fresh garnishes, juices, syrups, and other batched components to recipe.
  • Change kegs, swap CO2 tanks, and assist with basic draft system maintenance.
  • Receive, organize, and rotate deliveries; assist with inventory counts and storage.
Cleanliness & Safety
  • Maintain bar cleanliness and sanitation per California Retail Food Code: wiping down surfaces, clearing glassware, taking out trash and recycling, and breaking down the bar at close.
  • Manage safe handling of broken glass, hot water, and chemical sanitizers.
  • Report safety, sanitation, or equipment concerns to management promptly.
Responsible Beverage Service
  • Verify guest IDs when requested and uphold California ABC compliance and RBS standards.
  • Maintain current California Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certification.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age to handle alcohol behind the bar (B&P Code §25663).
Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions, in accordance with the ADA and California FEHA.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move quickly behind a bar for shifts of up to 10 hours.
  • Ability to lift and carry kegs, cases, and ice bins weighing up to 50 lbs repeatedly.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, climbing stairs to storage, and repetitive motion.
  • Exposure to varying temperatures (walk-in coolers, dish areas), water, broken glass, and standard restaurant noise levels.
Preferred Experience / Minimum Qualifications
  1. California Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) Certification required within 60 days of hire (AB 1221).
  2. Must be at least 21 years of age (B&P Code §25663).
  3. Demonstrated experience in a high-volume bar environment.
  4. Genuine passion for food and wine preferred.
  5. California Food Handler Card required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  6. Minimum of 3 years of experience in the position or a directly related role, including high-volume restaurant experience.
  7. Understanding of California labor laws, workplace regulations, and ethical business practices.
  8. Ability to follow company policies, procedures, and service standards.
  9. Authorization to work in the United States (Form I-9 verification required).
