Raytheon’s Surface Radars and Sensors (SR&S) Center in Huntsville, AL, is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to serve as the lead administrator and technical authority for the IBM DOORS requirements-management ecosystem. This role is part of the Digital Ecosystem & Platforms team within the Systems Engineering & Integration Team (SE&IT) and is integral to maintaining the reliable operation of both DOORS Classic and DOORS NextGen environments while supporting Raytheon’s enterprise-wide Digital Engineering transformation.

In this role, you will lead efforts to structure, maintain, and optimize the specification repository architecture, as well as execute the migration from DOORS Classic to DOORS NextGen. You will work closely with government customers, engineering leadership, contractor partners, and cross-functional technical teams to ensure accurate requirements and interface data capture. Additionally, you will troubleshoot and resolve complex issues involving DXL scripts, Java extensions, backend interactions, and data integrity. The successful candidate will also collaborate with internal tool-development teams to design, test, and deploy automation tools and custom enhancements using DXL, JavaScript, Python, and OSLC/REST services. Beyond technical responsibilities, you will play a critical role in modernizing the DOORS ecosystem to align with customer-driven Digital Engineering objectives.

What You Will Do

  • Administer and manage IBM DOORS Classic and DOORS NextGen environments, including access control, folder structures, user permissions, and schema configurations.

  • Support specification change teams by creating change sections, managing views, establishing links, assigning Data IDs, and facilitating accurate data entry.

  • Maintain specification baselines, apply approved updates, generate and deliver partitions, and import/exchange third-party partitions.

  • Collaborate with internal development teams to build, test, and deploy automation scripts, DXL customizations, OSLC/REST extensions, and productivity tools.

  • Troubleshoot DOORS-related errors, resolve legacy DXL script issues, debug Java extensions, and address backend interface challenges to ensure system stability and data integrity.

  • Generate and manage specification partitions for data exchange between internal and external stakeholder organizations.

  • Lead planning and execution efforts for the migration from DOORS Classic to DOORS NextGen as part of the customer’s Digital Engineering initiative.

  • Partner with government customers, engineering leadership, and contractor counterparts to align requirements management with program objectives.

  • Support multiple simultaneous users and workflows in dynamic operational engineering environments.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.

  • Experience with DOORS Administration (NextGen).

  • Experience with DXL and JavaScript, Python, and/or other scripting languages.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience supporting Missile Defense Agency (MDA) programs or other DoD engineering environments.

  • Experience implementing Digital Engineering (DE) or Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).

  • Experience supporting proposal development and technical volume creation.

  • Familiarity with Linux and Windows enterprise environments.

  • Experience working in classified or secure computing environments.

  • Strong database administrator mindset, with the ability to distinguish application behavior from backend database issues.

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and solve problems in complex technical environments.

  • Experience supporting simultaneous users and engineering workflows.

  • Experience collaborating with government customers and cross‑functional engineering teams.

  • Extensive experience with DOORS Classic; DOORS administration strongly preferred.

  • Familiarity with DOORS NextGen and an understanding of architectural differences between Classic and NextGen.

What We Offer

  • Our values drive our actions, behaviors, and performance with a vision for a safer, more connected world. At RTX we value: Safety, Trust, Respect, Accountability, Collaboration, and Innovation.
