A ranger, also known as a park ranger, is a government employee who works to protect and monitor federal and state lands. As a ranger, your job is to patrol trails and campgrounds in woodlands, forests, and other protected land areas and make sure that visitors are following rules and treating the land and wildlife with respect. You take part in park operations, working at park entrances, ranger stations, and visitor centers to educate visitors about the ecosystem and wildlife as well as park regulations. You also help with search-and-rescue missions when hikers and campers get lost.
