Summary
You will serve as a Supervisory Police Officer in the Force Protection Division, Operations Department of NS NORFOLK SECURITY DETACHMENT.

  • You will oversee the operations of the Security Department operating under pre-prescribed guidelines and procedures espoused by leadership.
  • You will ensure leadership is immediately notified of situations or incidents that arise during the shift that may have an impact or be detrimental to the installation's security posture.
  • You will provide input and recommendations to leadership on operational requirements, the deployment of effective counter measures, personnel, equipment, and resources needed to ensure an effective security program is provided to the installation.
  • You will respond to and investigate complaints while interpreting and enforcing state and federal laws, the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), DoD and Navy regulations, and installation directives, rules and regulations.
  • You will respond to intrusion detection system (IDS) alarms, emergency calls, complaints, and other calls for service while on duty.
  • You will operate electronic tactical police communications equipment, including mobile data terminals to receive dispatches, respond to calls and complete official reports.
  • You will perform a full range of force protection, anti-terrorism and sentry duties at installations.
  • You will ensure individuals requesting access to the installation have proper identification.
  • You will detect and investigate unusual situations/conditions, take required action to resolve various incidents/situations, and request additional support, if necessary.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
  • You shall be required to be CPR certified and utilize a portable heart defibrillator where available.
  • Must be able to successfully complete the mandated 40-hour Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) to be qualified to Operate motor vehicles having gross vehicle weights of 7,000 pounds or less.
  • If assigned to HSB Crewman operations, you must be qualified IAW CNICINST 3502.2, NAVEDTRA 43467-1, the NAVEDTRA 43606, Shore Installation Management Basic Boat Coxswain and Crewmember PQS, and NAVEDTRA 43468-A, Shore Training Team Member/Leader.
  • If assigned to HSB Crewman operations, you must also be qualified IAW NAVEDTRA 43466, Security Force Weapons, and OPNAVINST 3591, Small Arms Training and Qualification on all assigned craft's weapons systems, and qualified as a second class swimmer.

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Directing and making immediate decisions in the provisions of law enforcement (LE), antiterrorism (AT), and Force Protection (FP); 2) Performing a full range of duties and responsibilities in preventing terrorist activities, resolving offenses, conducting preliminary and ongoing investigations of incidents; 3) Documenting law enforcement and security events and the issuance of citations; 4) Implementing force protection condition (FPCON) measures and random antiterrorism measures (RAM) in the response to command direction and terrorist threats.
