Job description

Position Overview:

The Preventative Maintenance Generator Technician is responsible for performing routine maintenance, inspections, and load banking on industrial generators to ensure optimal performance and reliability. This role is ideal for individuals with mechanical aptitude, a passion for hands-on work, or experience in generator maintenance looking to grow their career.

Reporting Relationship: The Preventive Maintenance Generator Technician reports to the Generator Service Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance, including engine oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks on industrial generators.
  • Perform thorough inspections of generators and transfer switches to identify potential issues and ensure compliance with operational standards.
  • Execute load banking procedures to test generator performance under various conditions.
  • Document maintenance activities, inspection findings, and load bank test results accurately.
  • Maintain knowledge of generator models, maintenance protocols, and industry standards.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with customers through professional communication and service.
  • Adhere to company-sponsored safety training, compliance, and HAZMAT/DOT requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Basic knowledge of gas and/or diesel engine maintenance, particularly oil changes and mechanical inspections, or willingness to learn.
  • Familiarity with generator systems and load banking processes, or ability to develop proficiency.
  • Proficiency with tools such as hand tools, multimeters, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret maintenance manuals, checklists, and basic schematics.
  • Comfortable using computer software for documentation and reporting.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to operate basic shop equipment.

Travel and hours expectations:

  • Up to 50% based on HMC projects and time of year, including potential overnight stays
