Job description

Midwest Foods is a wholesale food distributor providing top quality food products to numerous food establishments in Chicago, surrounding suburbs, Michigan, Wisconsin and Indiana. Family owned and run company for two generations, we import fruits & vegetables from all over the country and other parts of the world to distribute these products to local markets. We are looking to complement our growth by hiring a Warehouse Quality Control Inspector.

The Warehouse Quality Control inspector is responsible for enforcing food safety practices and following regulations for our receiving and storage processes. WQC is also responsible for identifying and resolving quality issues while working collaboratively with other departments.

Schedule: 1st Shift, Sunday-Friday, with a random day off

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee product received from approved suppliers, verify documentation, including trucks, and address any discrepancies.
  • Escalate any quality related issue to the corresponding department.
  • Designate approved product for staging and put non conformed product on quality hold.
  • Ensure cooler standards are met, including, but not limited to, rotating product, enforcing FIFO guidelines, and the integrity of packages/boxes and storage areas.
  • Enforce food safety established guidelines and procedures for product storage locations by allergens, packaging, and category.
  • Monitor HACCP critical control points and conduct GMP inspections to enforce proper GMP regulations.
  • Calibrate test equipment.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of WQC, including but not limited to logs, discrepancy reports and traceability.
  • Perform cooler inspections and oversee the process of disposing of poor quality and expired items.
  • Perform other quality related duties, as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role, working with fresh food items.
  • GMP, CCP HACCP certified.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience operating sit-down forklift and electric walkie rider.
  • English proficiency, written and oral.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull up to 60 lbs. without assistance.
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work in cold environment, 32-37 F.
