Job description

Ranch Manager

Location: Ivanhoe, CA

Employment Type: Full-Time

Schedule: Flexible schedule required, including some evenings, weekends, and seasonal demands.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Ranch Manager to oversee the daily operations of a 300-acre agricultural

property consisting of walnut and citrus orchards. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive

knowledge of orchard management practices, irrigation systems, farm equipment operation and maintenance, and the

ability to coordinate multiple aspects of ranch operations while ensuring productivity, efficiency, and safety.

Essential Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage all day-to-day ranch operations for walnut and citrus production.

• Monitor and maintain irrigation systems to ensure efficient water management and crop health.

• Operate, maintain, and coordinate repairs for tractors, implements, trailers, and other farm equipment.

• Pull trailers and safely transport equipment as needed.

• Coordinate with Pest Control Advisors (PCAs) and applicators regarding spray recommendations and application

schedules.

• Schedule and supervise vendors, contractors, and seasonal labor crews.

• Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate ranch employees.

• Monitor orchard conditions and implement cultural practices to maximize crop quality and yield.

• Maintain accurate records of irrigation, equipment maintenance, labor, chemical applications, and ranch activities.

• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and agricultural best practices.

• Assist with harvest planning and execution.

• Respond to operational needs outside of normal business hours during critical farming periods.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of agricultural management experience, preferably in walnuts, citrus, or permanent crops.

• Strong knowledge of orchard operations, irrigation systems, and crop production practices.

• Experience operating tractors, farm equipment, and towing trailers.

• Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform routine equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.

• Experience coordinating with PCAs, vendors, contractors, and seasonal labor crews.

• Proven leadership and personnel management skills.

• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and solve problems effectively.

• Strong organizational and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Commercial applicator knowledge or experience working closely with pesticide programs.

• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.

• Experience with budgeting, inventory management, and agricultural recordkeeping.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

• Ability to walk uneven terrain and inspect fields regularly.

• Ability to safely operate agricultural machinery and equipment.
