Job description


The Director of Rail Operations is responsible for the oversight of all rail transportation. The Director is responsible for safely moving lubricating oil and specialty products from multiple re-refineries to customer locations and the movement of used motor oil from multiple locations to the re-refineries. This individual will also be responsible for planning and managing a fleet of rail cars.

Responsibilities
  • Ensuring that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Responsible for direct management of the Central Rail Team.
  • Ensure that all rail shipments are executed properly. Includes paperwork submittal, rail car tracking, assignment of rail STCC codes and WIN WEB system use. Support MIS on WIN system development for optimal rail tracking / management.
  • Manage the Company rail fleet efficiently. Controls and adjusts rail carpools as needed within the network. Assigns cars to required locations. Strong knowledge of rail related DOT shipping requirements.
  • Controls the lease of rail assets including lease payments and proper fleet size. Obtains and return equipment as needed and in accordance with best financial practices.
  • Utilizes the rail assets to drive down transportation costs. Utilizes cycle time reports Rail Pool sizing to ensure highest utilization of rail assets.
  • Works directly with respective sales teams to build out solutions for base, blended and byproduct customers.
  • Direct interaction with the railroads to obtain pricing, negotiate contracts, develop loading and unloading facilities and reduce demurrage. Supports all rail requests for pricing and project business.
  • Daily direct contact with all Clean Harbors rail shipping / receiving facilities to ensure most efficient processes.
  • Works with compliance department to ensure safe handling procedures in place for all rail shipments. Investigates and institutes corrective actions as needed.
  • May be assigned additional duties not listed above based on business needs.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Logistics, Business Administration or related required.
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of RCRA, DOT, & FRA regulations/laws.
  • Knowledge of the rail / marine industries.
  • Logistics experience.
  • Proficiency in Windows based applications.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Good communication (written/verbal) skills.
  • Organizational and Interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel 10-25%.
