Position Overview

As a Fleet and Equipment Service Technician, you will be responsible for the inspection, diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of trucks and specialized railroad fleet equipment. This includes performing DOT, FRA, and crane inspections, troubleshooting and repairing engines, HVAC systems, electrical systems, hydraulic components, and drivetrain systems. While the primary focus is on fleet vehicles, technicians may also be tasked with servicing and repairing heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoes, and other machinery as needed. Work is performed in the shop ensuring fleet readiness and compliance with industry regulations.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES: 
   Conducts necessary performance and diagnostic tests to evaluate truck and equipment condition, interprets results, and determines required repairs.
   Performs inspections and compliance checks, including DOT, FRA, and crane inspections, to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
   Diagnoses and repairs engines, HVAC systems, electrical components, hydraulics, transmissions, braking systems, powertrain, and other mechanical and electronic systems.
   References and interprets service manuals, diagnostic software, and parts catalogs to determine faults and verify repair specifications.
   Identifies warranty coverage for parts, processes warranty claims, and manages the return of core and remanufactured components.
   Uses advanced troubleshooting techniques to diagnose fleet equipment issues and performs repairs according to Time Requirement Guidelines (TRG). Escalates unresolved problems to Technical Communicators for support.
   Performs service and repairs in-shop, in-field, or at customer locations, which may include overtime and overnight assignments.
   Occasionally tasked with performing repairs and maintenance on heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoes, and other construction equipment.
   Maintains a professional demeanor and strong communication with customers, providing updates on diagnostics, repairs, and estimated completion times.
   Orders necessary parts for repairs, assesses reusability, and determines failure causes.
   Completes and submits service reports, time entries, and other required documentation daily via laptop and email.
