This position is eligible for telework, which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective date of hire.

The MTA network comprises the nation's largest bus fleet and more subway and commuter rail cars than all other U.S. transit systems combined. Job Summary:
This position is responsible for managing the resources, personnel coordination, and administrative processes required to support the MTA Police Department's fleet, facilities, departmental events, and administrative projects. The incumbent will exercise managerial authority over all MTAPD fleet operations, coordinate departmental facility management, oversee special events, and manage departmental property workflows. The role includes extensive collaboration with internal and external MTA partners while ensuring that all initiatives align with departmental goals. This position requires travel throughout the MTA region, including operating an MTA vehicle during routine conditions.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide administrative oversight of the MTAPD vehicle fleet, including registration, titling, safety compliance, inspections, and coordination with NYS DMV through the Confidential Plate Program.
  • Maintain and administer the NYS E-Z Pass program for fleet vehicles, including monitoring violations and managing transponder inventory.
  • Coordinate with command staff to resolve fleet-related issues and support operational readiness.
  • Exercise administrative managerial authority over MTAPD fleet operations, departmental facilities, and special operational projects.
  • Coordinate the management of department property requests including furniture, equipment, space modifications, storage needs, and capital/non-capital facility improvements.
  • Oversee special procurement needs, ensuring alignment with but not duplication of Procurement and Budget offices' core functions.
  • Coordinate vendor interactions and ensure timely processing of invoices related to fleet, facilities, events, or special procurements,
  • Maintain inventory control procedures across vehicles, equipment, furniture, and specialized resources.
  • Coordinate construction, renovation, and modification activities for MTAPD facilities, including internal moves and workspace improvements.
  • Manage and execute all MTAPD special events, including ceremonies, promotions, graduations, awards presentations, and internal departmental functions.
  • Coordinate logistics, materials, staffing, and interagency communications required for successful event delivery.
  • Oversee administration of special parking permits for both departmental fleet vehicles and authorized personnel's personal vehicles.
  • Liaise regularly with internal MTA departments (Real Estate, Bridges & Tunnels, BSC, Construction & Development, HQ Facilities, Legal, Procurement, etc.) and external municipal or partner agencies.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for executive leadership.
  • Monitor implementation timeliness for all assigned projects and ensure completion within scope and schedule.

  • Reviews invoices and approves them if the work has contractual standards, as applicable

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of public safety administration, including fleet/facility management and law enforcement procurement.
  • Strong managerial and leadership skills, with the ability to direct professional and technical staff.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and presentation abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively with high-level internal stakeholders and external agencies.
  • Analytical ability and proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a high profile, high pressure environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Must be flexible in working schedule and may be required to do a considerable amount of travel in the MTA service area.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) in Business Administration, Public Administration or related disciplines.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in law enforcement administration, procurement support, automotive service support, program administration, or related work preferred.
  • A Driver's License is required.

The Following is/are preferred:
  • H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Relevant education and/or professional experience demonstrating the required knowledge and skills, including a minimum of two years of supervisory experience preferred.

May need to work outside of normal work hours (i.e., evenings and weekends)
Travel may be required to other MTA locations or other external sites.
