Job Summary:

The Event Supervisor on The Polar Express is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the event process, ensuring that all elements run smoothly, efficiently and according to the schedule. This role serves as a vital connector between departments, overseeing event logistics and collaborating closely with the Production Supervisor to ensure seamless execution while supporting the creative direction of the production. The Event Supervisor plays a vital role in creating a magical experience for up to 2,376 riders nightly during the 8-week event.

The Details:

Position Type: Seasonal

Seasonal Dates: 10/15/2026 - 1/03/2027

Pay: $20.25 an hour

Schedule: (4 day work week minimum) 

  • Must be available on
    • Weekends (Saturday & Sunday)
    • Three addition days between Monday - Friday.

Responsibilities
  • Fully understand and support Xanterra's Mission Statement, Cultural Pillars, Community Commitment and Core Values.
  • Responsible for the effective enforcement of all Xanterra and Grand Canyon Railway hospitality standards, procedures, policies, and environmental program cultural pillar.
  • Supervise and coordinate daily event activities, making sure all areas of the event work together seamlessly.
  • Communicate effectively with the Production Supervisor to resolve issues, address technical or artistic needs, and maintain the integrity of the production.
  • Facilitate problem-solving and adapt to evolving production requirements, including managing changes and troubleshooting workflow bottlenecks.
  • Accommodates guests by established guidelines, professionally manages stressful situations in a public setting, and promptly resolves guest concerns.
  • Establishes and maintains effective professional working relationships with staff, co-workers, directors, and other departments, working together in a positive work environment.
  • Oversees training and supports cast members to ensure exceptional performance and adherence to the company standards.
  • The Event Supervisor works directly with the Production Supervisor to manage 30-40 cast members during the nightly shows.
  • Assign passenger cars, manage work schedules, and direct daily activities to maintain smooth and efficient operations.
  • Monitor and evaluate staff performance, provide feedback, and implement improvements as needed.
  • Responsible for understanding and adhering to all prescribed Environmental Management Systems (EMS) policies and corporate commitments to maintain ISO 14001 goals and guidelines; reduce, reuse, and recycle program.
  • Handles biohazard clean-ups.
  • Maintains organization and flexibility in carrying out daily job duties.
  • Practices good judgment when making decisions regarding guest service.
  • Responsible for compliance with all health and safety regulations enforcing sanitary practices and reporting train maintenance repair issues to the conductor.
  • Perform routine periodic walk-throughs in passenger cars; working closely with all production staff to ensure all levels of guest service and safety protocols are being followed to ensure a secure environment for both guests and staff.
  • Complete training or certifications related to the job; Railroad Safety 101, CPR/First Aid, & Serve Safe.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year of previous supervisory experience, in hospitality, transportation, or event production.
  • Minimum 3 years of previous customer service experience in hospitality.
  • Must possess a valid/clear Arizona Driver's License and be able to comply with the Xanterra/GCR Vehicle Policy.
  • Must possess the ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Must be at least 19 years of age.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in event production.
  • Education in event production.
  • Experience in train operations or related fields is highly desirable.

Physical Requirements:

  • Constantly listening, hearing, seeing, and speaking.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly handling items up to 20 pounds.
  • Frequently standing, walking, sitting, reaching outward, climbing, and bending.
  • Occasionally reaching above shoulders, crawling, squatting/kneeling, carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs. and pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs.
  • Will be required to stand and walk for long periods on cement floors and to occasionally walk on uneven surfaces and onboard a moving train.
