REGISTERED ALCOHOL & DRUG TECHNICIAN (RADT)

Compensation: $18.00 $22.00 per hour
Reports To: Program Director (or Designee)


POSITION SUMMARY


The Registered Alcohol & Drug Technician (RADT) provides direct support services to clients receiving substance use disorder (SUD) detoxification and residential treatment services at Butte Horizon Detox. Working under the supervision of licensed and certified treatment professionals, the RADT assists with client supervision, recovery support, program operations, documentation, and maintenance of a safe and therapeutic treatment environment.

The RADT plays a critical role in supporting clients through the early stages of recovery by promoting client engagement, reinforcing recovery-oriented behaviors, monitoring client well-being, and assisting with day-to-day program operations. This position may include day, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts based on program needs. Full-time and part-time opportunities are available.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


CLIENT MONITORING & SUPPORT

Monitor clients throughout the detoxification and residential treatment process for safety, well-being, and program compliance.

Observe and report changes in client behavior, emotional status, physical condition, withdrawal symptoms, or safety concerns to appropriate clinical or medical staff.

Conduct routine wellness checks, room checks, and facility rounds in accordance with facility policies and procedures.

Provide support and encouragement to clients as they navigate the recovery process.

Assist clients in understanding program expectations, schedules, and treatment requirements.

Promote a safe, respectful, and recovery-focused treatment environment.


RECOVERY SUPPORT & THERAPEUTIC ENVIRONMENT


Support clients in developing healthy coping skills, recovery-oriented behaviors, and personal responsibility.

Encourage participation in treatment activities, educational programming, groups, and recovery support services.

Assist in facilitating recovery-focused activities and support groups as directed by clinical staff.

Provide appropriate peer support and encouragement while maintaining professional boundaries.

Reinforce treatment goals established by counselors, clinicians, and treatment staff.

Help maintain a structured therapeutic environment conducive to recovery.


ADMISSIONS & INTAKE SUPPORT


Assist with client admissions, orientations, and intake procedures.

Review facility rules, expectations, schedules, and program information with new clients.

Assist with collection of required admission documentation as directed.

Orient clients to the facility and treatment program.


DOCUMENTATION & COMMUNICATION


Complete accurate, timely, and objective documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).

Document client observations, interactions, incidents, and shift activities.

Prepare shift reports and communicate relevant client information to incoming staff.

Communicate effectively with counselors, clinicians, nurses, medical providers, and administrative staff.

Participate in interdisciplinary team communication and treatment planning discussions as appropriate.


DRUG TESTING & SCREENING SUPPORT


Assist with drug and alcohol screening procedures in accordance with facility policies and applicable regulations.

Maintain chain-of-custody procedures and documentation requirements when applicable.

Report concerns regarding test results, tampering, or client compliance to appropriate staff.


FACILITY & SAFETY SUPPORT


Maintain awareness of client locations and activities at all times while on duty.

Support facility safety, security, and emergency response procedures.

Assist with de-escalation of behavioral situations and notify appropriate staff when intervention is required.

Ensure common areas remain clean, organized, and safe for clients and staff.

Report maintenance, safety, compliance, or environmental concerns promptly.


TRANSPORTATION DUTIES (IF ASSIGNED)


Assist with or provide client transportation services in accordance with facility policy.

Ensure safe and professional interactions during client transportation activities.

Maintain required transportation documentation when applicable.


FLEXIBILITY & OTHER DUTIES


Perform other duties as assigned to support clinical, program, and facility operations.

Adapt to changing needs within a residential detox and treatment environment.

Collaborate with medical, clinical, compliance, and support staff to maintain client safety and program integrity.

Assist with special projects, audits, inspections, and accreditation activities as assigned.


WORK ENVIRONMENT


Residential detoxification and treatment setting.

Exposure to individuals experiencing active withdrawal or early recovery from substance use disorders.

May require day, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts.

Requires the ability to respond appropriately to client crises, behavioral concerns, and emergency situations.

Must be able to stand, walk, lift up to 50 pounds, and perform duties throughout the facility as needed.


QUALIFICATIONS


High school diploma or equivalent required.

Active RADT registration through an approved certifying organization required or must be obtained within applicable regulatory timeframes.

Experience in substance use disorder treatment, detoxification services, behavioral health, residential treatment, social services, healthcare, or related fields preferred.

Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.

Ability to maintain professional boundaries and client confidentiality.

Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary treatment team.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Prior experience in a Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment program, detoxification facility, behavioral health setting, or related healthcare environment is strongly preferred.


LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS


Active RADT registration required and must be maintained in good standing.

Current CPR certification preferred and may be required based on position assignment.

Tuberculosis (TB) clearance required in accordance with public health guidelines.

DOJ Live Scan background clearance required prior to unsupervised client contact.

Valid California driver's license required if transportation duties are assigned.


COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS


Completion of required onboarding, orientation, and annual compliance training.

Adherence to DHCS, Title 9, Joint Commission, and facility policies and procedures.

Compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 confidentiality requirements.

Compliance with professional boundaries, ethics requirements, and standards of conduct applicable to substance use disorder treatment services.


DRUG AND ALCOHOL TESTING REQUIREMENT


Employment in this position is contingent upon successful completion of a post-offer, pre-employment drug screening conducted in accordance with applicable California and federal laws.

As a safety-sensitive position, employees may be subject to drug and alcohol testing under reasonable suspicion, post-incident, or as otherwise permitted by law.

Refusal to submit to required testing or confirmed violation of facility policy may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination, consistent with applicable law.
