PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: A JROTC Senior Army Instructor (SAI) A JROTC Senior Army Instructor (SAI) serves as the department head and chief instructor for a high school's Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps program. The SAI manages daily operations, teaches leadership and citizenship curricula, and coordinates unit administration with school and military authorities.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. In addition to the requirements listed below, regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
  1. Ensures that all actions are in concert with the Board policies as well as the mission statement, beliefs, objectives, and parameters found in the Board's strategic plan.
  2. Participates in job training and professional growth opportunities in order to enhance ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
  3. Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
  4. Manage and conduct the JROTC unit according to Cadet Command guidance and school rules, regulations and policies.
  5. The SAI will advise school authorities on policy and regulation changes.
  6. Maintain good relations with school authorities, faculty and the student body.
  7. Conduct a public affairs effort in the local area middle and elementary schools, among school and community officials, civic groups, parent-teacher groups and other individuals or groups.
  8. Enroll students in JROTC and support school officials while executing the curriculum and the integrated extra-curricular activities.
  9. Prepare yearly master training schedules.
  10. Maintain contact with parents of all cadets experiencing academic or behavioral problems.
  11. Ensure JROTC unit areas are neat and orderly; current chain of command photos are posted; cadet creed, core abilities and mission statement are present; and all sensitive items are secured and are inventoried regularly.
  12. Ensure instructors share teaching responsibilities. Instructors should teach by expertise and preference in subject areas rather than by Leadership Education and Training (LET) levels. The SAI is responsible for teaching JROTC curriculum.
  13. Maintain all necessary documents and information to adhere to regulatory requirements and school guidance.
  14. Maintain accountability of all equipment including, but not limited to, items requiring formal and informal accountability, as well as durable items costing $5,000 or less, i.e., automation, computers, audiovisual equipment, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates for this position must possess at least a bachelor's degree and must be certified by Cadet Command. Must hold Officer rank: CPT/O-3 - COL/O-6 and have served a minimum of 8 years in the Army.
