Occupational Therapist (OT)
Hourly Rate: $59-64/hour
Location: Pontiac, MI; Onsite – School Setting
Position Summary:
The Occupational Therapist must use purposeful, goal-directed activities and task analysis to enable a child with a disability to benefit from his or her Individualized Education Program (IEP) while promoting functional independence and participation within the educational environment. Key Duties:
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations of students with suspected disabilities in accordance with state and federal regulations.  
  • Interpret assessment data and prepare detailed evaluation reports, progress reports, and IEP goals/objectives that comply with applicable guidelines and standards.  
  • Develop, implement, and document direct and consultative occupational therapy services aligned with students’ IEPs and 504 Plans.  
  • Provide individualized therapeutic interventions, program planning, family education, and consultation to support student success across educational settings.  
  • Maintain compliance with professional ethical standards, district policies, and state and federal special education requirements.
  •  Accurately maintain professional documentation, including session notes, quarterly progress reports, IEP documentation, and student records.  
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including teachers, therapists, administrators, parents, and support staff, to ensure coordinated student services. Updated June 2026 JP  
  • Communicate assessment findings, recommendations, and treatment plans clearly and professionally to families, educators, and team members.  
  • Partner with school personnel to identify and implement evidence-based classroom strategies and individualized support for students.  
  • Participate actively in team meetings, professional development opportunities, and collaborative planning sessions.  
  • Provide parent education and resources related to child and adolescent development, therapeutic strategies, and home-based support techniques.  
  • Maintain and organize occupational therapy equipment, materials, and supplies to ensure safe and effective service delivery.  
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills while maintaining positive professional relationships with students, families, and colleagues.  
  • Adapt effectively to changing responsibilities, student needs, schedules, and work locations within the school environment.  
  • Keep supervisors informed of significant concerns, potential issues, or unusual situations impacting student services or program operations.

Other Job Functions:
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Participates in various meetings (e.g. parent conferences, in-service training, site meetings, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information and/or meeting credential requirements.
  • Train Paraprofessionals/COTAs on various student plans
  • Regular and predictable attendance

Experience Required:  Prior job-related experience.

  • Skills to apply assessment techniques and treatment modalities and communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of assessment techniques and treatment modalities, relevant education codes, state and district policies, and child development patterns.
  • Abilities to complete a case study and develop an individual education plan; work independently, be flexible and work under time constraints, work effectively with staff, parents, students, and community.  Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, reaching/handling/fingering, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/visual accommodation.
Physical Requirements:
  • Regular sitting, speaking, hearing, and use of hands. Occasional standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and lifting up to 10 pounds.
Licenses, Certifications, and/or Testing Required:
  • Registered Occupational Therapist –State of Michigan
  • Michigan Driver’s License
  • Pediatric experience preferred
