Job description

Position Overview

The Journeyman Mechanic at Professional Excavators & Construction Inc. is responsible for the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of heavy trucks and construction equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. Working independently and collaboratively with the maintenance team, the Journeyman Mechanic applies advanced technical expertise to troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems while performing preventative maintenance and major repairs. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and minimizing equipment downtime in a fast-paced construction environment.

  • Assess work orders, diagnose faults and malfunctions by examining the vehicle, using testing equipment, and carrying out test drives
  • Dismantle faulty assemblies and repair or replace worn or damaged parts
  • Reassemble, adjust and test new or repaired components
  • Perform scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications, and tune-ups
  • Provide detail about repairs so others understand what work has been done, on general vehicle conditions, and future repair requirements
  • Keep work areas clean and free of safety hazards on a continuous basis.
  • Contribute to safety and efficiency by participating in safety meetings and incident investigations
  • Help develop Heavy-Duty Technician apprentices

Requirements

  • Journeyperson Heavy-Duty Technician or Truck & Transport Mechanic trade qualification is required
  • Red-Seal Certification is preferred
  • Valid CVIP/MVI license (or qualifies to obtain one)
  • A minimum of a valid class 5 Provincial driver’s license
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Cummins experience is an asset
