Job description

As a traffic engineer, you’ll plan, budget, and deliver traffic engineering projects including traffic operational analysis, traffic microsimulation models, roadway design, signal design, signing and marking, and construction traffic control plans. The traffic engineering designer reports to the project manager.


  • Perform traffic engineering planning and design including leading project tasks.
  • Conduct investigations and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, roadways, intersections, signage, signals, pavement markings, and transportation corridors to determine conformance with applicable rules and standards
  • Design of traffic control devices including quantities, cost estimates, and specifications for transportation construction bid packages for federal, state and local agencies (intersections, interstate, roadway and rail corridors). 
  • Ability to perform traffic design operational and safety analysis.
  • Write technical reports and create presentations of findings to clients and the public.

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil or Transportation Engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Florida or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation, Open Roads, AutoCAD, Civil 3D. VISSIM, Synchro/Sim traffic, Sidra Intersection, and HCS software.
  • Knowledge of Florida Department of Transportation Manual of Uniform Traffic Studies (MUTS), Florida Department of Transportation Standard Designs, Florida Department of Transportation Traffic Engineering Manual (TEM)
  • This hybrid job operates between an office environment and a field environment and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones and copy machines. May require occasional exposure to work environments that may include inclement weather, heat, humidity, noise, hazard, atmospheric conditions, and bodies of water, depending on project requirements
  • While performing the duties of this job, physical demands of the employee include frequent sitting, moving, standing, talking, hearing, and occasional balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling. This job may occasionally require operating a company vehicle, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 35 lbs.
