Job description

REPORTS TO:                         

   Middle School Principal and Athletic Director
EMPLOYMENT STATUS:        

   Temporary, part-time
POSITION SUMMARY:           

   Coach middle school grade level team(s), supervise a grade level middle school football program and coordinate the

   middle school program between grade levels and with high school program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:

  • Organize and coach all practice sessions.
  • Coach all scheduled games.
  • Organize and coordinate practice schedules of all football teams at that grade level.
  • Assure that students are supervised continuously and require students to behave appropriately.
  • Supervise the distribution, collection and inventory of all equipment.
  • Prepare written inventory of all equipment prior to start of season and at conclusion of season.
  • Inspect all equipment and be responsible for seeing that equipment is maintained and safe for student use.  Prepare equipment for reconditioning.
  • Coordinate and supervise fitting of students for equipment.
  • Prepare a written practice schedule and distribute weekly to students/parents, Middle School Athletic Director and Middle School Administrators.
  • Collect, maintain, and distribute to appropriate personnel all emergency medical forms and medical information about students.
  • Conduct parent meeting prior to start of season.
  • Prepare budget for MMS football program that is submitted to MMS Athletic Director.
  • Prepare written budget requests for MMS athletic director that will be forwarded to Quarterback Club.
  • Comply with the academic eligibility requirements of the Ohio High School Athletic Association, the Marysville School District and the Marysville Middle School.
  • Inform students and their parents weekly of any eligibility problems or if student is ineligible
  • Organize and conduct award program.
  • Observe all safety and health regulations of the school district.
  • Maintain medical kits.
  • Prepare and organize all necessary records and forms.
  • Complete paperwork as directed by MMS athletic director and/or building administrators.
  • Serve as a role model for student athletes in the promotion and practice of sportsmanship, ethical principles and responsible behavior.
  • Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with students, staff, parents and community members.
  • Prepare written announcements regarding practices, games, etc. for MMS announcements.
  • Prepare written summaries and information concerning MMS football games, etc. for local newspaper.
  • Inspect MMS game and practice facilities and report to MMS Athletic Director any concerns, etc. concerning facilities.
  • Uphold the rules and guidelines of the OHSAA, Board of Education, Athletic Department and the MMS Student Handbook.
  • Coordinate the MMS Football program with MHS Football program.   Communicate with MHS Head Varsity Coach and MHS Football assistants about skills to be taught, etc. at this level.
  • Maintain the locker room facilities.
  • Organize and supervise the physical conditioning program prior to start of season.  Provide written information to students and MMS Athletic Director about such programs prior to end of previous school year.
  • Communicate any violations of policies or improper conduct of coaches to MMS Athletic Director in a prompt and timely manner.
  • Supervise other MMS Football coaches and provide written input to MMS Athletic Director for the purpose of evaluating these coaches.
  • Communicate regularly and frequently with the other MMS Head Football Coach in order to coordinate the total MMS Football program. 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Other duties may be assigned by the Middle School Athletic Director, Middle School Principal or High School Head Football Coach.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Pupil Activity Supervisor Validation.
  • Ohio teaching certificate/license preferred.
  • CPR certification with mandatory annual review.  

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to teach and evaluate the skills of the sport.
  • Football experience and/or knowledge of football.
  • Ability to effectively supervise high school athletes and work with them in a positive manner.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with adults.
  • Ability to meet the practice and contest time requirements specified by the Athletic Director or Principal. 

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:

  • Blocking and tackling sleds.
  • Audiovisual equipment.  

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Potential exposure to blood or other bodily fluids.
  • Regular exposure to hazardous athletic equipment.
  • Close proximity to people running.
  • Potential exposure to unruly people.
  • Exposure to dust, pollen and inclement weather conditions.  

NOTE:  The above lists may not be ranked in order of importance.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Length of Employment: Contract runs concurrent with school year; Football season will run approximately August through November
  • Salary:  Supplemental pay, step one or appropriate experience step level
