Job description

Rogers Group, headquartered in Nashville, TN is a 115-year-old privately held aggregates and asphalt highway construction company with quarry and asphalt construction operations in 9 states with 3,000 employees. The company has the distinction of being recognized as the largest privately held crushed stone producer in the United States.

Rogers Group is currently seeking an individual for a Groundsman position for our Virginia SMA operations in Roanoke, VA.  The successful candidate for this role will be motivated, and have an uncompromising focus on safety excellence.

Job Details:

  • Wages starting at $18.00/hr. for entry level candidates. Some positions require no experience and Rogers Group will train. 
  • Higher pay for skilled operators of heavy equipment with quarry and mining experience. 
  • Overtime available and extensive medical and retirement benefits. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • General plant/mine labor and clean-up of production areas, including shoveling stone from around conveyors and assisting with plant clean-up and operations.
  • Being trained in various other entry level production positions and fill in as needed during vacations, absences, and increased production demand times.
  • Operate heavy equipment to support operations as needed.
  • Run water truck to control dust on roadways.

  • Report equipment problems and identify them to management; help maintain quarry and equipment.
  • Light maintenance work and maintaining belt lines.
  • Complete daily inspections and equipment pre-shift report - if applicable.
  • Assist other workers as needed or directed and other duties as assigned by management.

Job Qualifications:

  • Self-motivated individual - must be able to perform required duties without constant supervision.

  • Able to perform a variety of duties, some which may include plant clean-up, maintenance, operating equipment and other duties as assigned.

  • Previous experience operating heavy equipment - such as a skid steer, haul truck, excavator, or loader - preferred.

  • Ability to learn quickly.

  • Ability to understand basic safety and work instructions.

  • Must be willing to work weekends and overtime.

  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen.

  • Maintenance experience strongly preferred.

  • Experience with aggregate operations is a plus.

  • Cutting and welding experience a plus.

  • Must be willing to work overtime and extended hours as needed.
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen.
  • Able to provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration document.
